lastly could members please reccommend a card reader which takes CF cards id like a card which i can install into the case. also a firewire card to connect to the mobo as i have a couple of devices which still use firewire and lastly a fan control unit which i can install at the front of the case.

have decided to hold fire on the gpu for the time being as unsure on what to get plus will see how the cpu copes for the time being.

If I am using the 4670k processor with the GA-Z87-D3HP, do I need to over clock the memory if I am using ram running faster than 1600mhz? This is what gigabyte have said is this correct?

If it was me I would buy a 650w psu Bronze Modular to play safe. You'll need it if you want to add stuff later. To the person who said the GTX650 was pants. sorry, you talking wrong there. For Photoshop/Lightroom it is Brilliant, I know, I use one. Mind you, if cash was a lot better I might go for one slightly higher just to get the feel good factor.
Buy a Better Cooler but make sure it fits your case. Colour of Ram etc is NUTS in my book. If you can't see it does it matter. Newbuild is not a gamer.. I use RAM with XMP. You will not need to overclock but is good to get an unlocked K just in case.
Good Luck.

Don't make me LOL Russ ;)

The 650 is pants. The 650Ti isn't much more and has double the number of stream processors. Although in truth the 600 series CUDA performance is rather lack lustre. He might not be a gamer but if I was buying a GPU i'd like it to be a good all rounder for the money. Gamers will be upgrading from Nvidia 460s to get better performance and more VRAM, so if he just wanted CUDA support he could pick one of these up pretty cheap. I bought one over the 560 years back, it's a great bargain buy if he can find one which is why I mentioned it.

A ~500W PSU is ample for a single GPU setup (when he wants to add a GPU) and Haswell has a stronger memory controller than Ivy, with prices between 1600Mhz and faster kits being so minimal it makes sense to get the fastest you can afford.

I don't really like his revised spec but it's his money. I don't see the point of spending ~£100 on the H100i when the mobo has a decent cooler supplied for free. That money would be better spent going towards the i7K, which in fact came on offer for £240 (for the retail version) not long after I posted my spec.

also apart from a screw driver will i need anything else on the day of the build? i have purchased an anti-static wrist band!!!!

I've been building rigs for well over a decade and NEVER needed a antistatic wristband. Ground yourself on a radiator etc before opening the parts. Assemble the mobo bundle on the box and fit it in the case. When you are working you are constantly in contact with the case grounding yourself as you go anyway.

I've not gone for the H100i am going for a Noctua fan. Plus based on your advice going to look for a s/h GPU. :)
