ideas - ice breaker / game for 70 people?

Generally I am against games, I especially hate party games and drinking games. These people are adults. Just make conversation and get to know each other.

Bear Hunter Ninja

It's like rock paper scissors, but:

Hunter kills Bear
Ninja kills Hunter
Bear kills Ninja

You start facing away from each other, and on three you turn around (jump turns encouraged) and do the action and make the noise

It's so lame but it's hilarious

69 long straws
1 short straw
1 large tube of lubricant.
1 roll of duct tape

Show them..

Then say "build a bridge using the straws that's strong enough to connect two chairs and hold the tube in the middle".

yep, that's the one.

People complaining about games and ice-breakers are such losers. I always look at them and think 'I bet you ****ing iron your socks, you complete shunt'.

Anyway, given that you've got a huge number of people, I'd suggest a pub quiz type scenario. It gets people working in groups, a bit of friendly rivalry and if you do some questions on things people like - film, music, tv, sport and beer, then people will be more engaged. A little prize for the winning team and maybe dunces hats for the losers. Toss in some sweets and sorted!
