For my ship modelling, I need a baton exactly 13mm X 12mm.

I'm finding it strangely tough to get hold of. B&Q only cut sheet materials. Where do you think I could get it?

My Pants. You would need to cut it into 16.19 Sections to get what you need though :/

if anyone works out how big my junk is from that then you got too much time on ya hands

Ebay, find someone with something close and email them for a custom part. Had metal, plastic and wood this custom cut this way and far cheaper than places like b&q

A local timber merchant / wood yard should be able to sort you out. I have all shapes and sizes from ours, including angled sides, lengths ect. Just ask and tell them it needs to accurate.

If you will be needing to buy a lot of timber at odd sizes, then you might be better off investing in a table saw. They are really useful and you will be amazed at all the jobs you find for it.

You left this too ambiguous, are you talking about volume, cross sectional area, or god forbid length?

Are'nt table saws a little difficult to cut that accurately on though at that small size?

A kind explanation to a local shopfitter / carpenters will probably get you what you want in minutes, and depending on how amiable you are, could only cost you a gesture note.

They often are, you can get modelling versions though which if you need a lot of such small bits can be worth a look at.

Either that or he could get a razor saw (very sharp mini saw that often fits onto a knife sort of handle) and cut it manually.
IIRC they cost about £20, which combined with a mitre block would probably do it, or even a mitre saw rather than a razor saw.

13mm x 12mm would be fine with a decent blade. Any smaller and you'd need to make a zero tolerance table insert to stop the thin timbers being sucked down the blade slot.

I guess it depends how smooth you need the sides. With a decent 80 tooth blade it'll be fairly smooth, but not quite planed smooth.

It was goddamn hard to read to the end of the thread without making inappropriate "wood"-jokes in your head.

And I still had to post this.

Hope ya find your wood.. strong and... etc..
