Yes.

Which doesn't really effect console gamers, but is great news for PC

I think the step graphics makes with each generation of console helps to attract new gamers to a certain degree, but the reality is, it's gameplay that counts and this is something that's stagnated more than anything else over the last ten years.

Batman Arkham Origins is a prime example. It's essentially AC with a few more graphical bells and whistles. Yet it didn't receive anywhere near the critical acclaim from professional reviewers or gamers. The graphics are better but the gameplay is the same and so as far as I'm concerned, graphics are good enough, so I'd like to see some gameplay innovation father than realistic foot prints in the snow, as nice as they are.

COD Ghosts aside, COD has been getting away with this for nearly 10 years now.

The new consoles seem pretty obsolete already this time around ( more so than normal). I mean the PS4 and XBox One cant even run BF4 at 1080p and get 60fps so they are having to lower the native res and upscale it. The Xbox One BF4 is natively rendered at 720p!

When you think that a decent graphics set up ( single overclocked 290x/780 or 7950 Xfire/670 sli) can get ~100fps at 1080p 4xMSAA all on ultra then there is already quite a gulf.

I think COD gets away with it because most people buy for the MP. And although there's little inovation going on, it's the gameplay style that keeps people playing. It's quick, it's easy, it's familiar and it's enjoyable to play in short spells. That's great for someone like me who doesn't have the time anymore to play for hours at a time.

Will this graphic jump really effect us as pc gamers?.

I know there is hope that we will get better looking games that will push our pcs a bit more if anything I worry it might hurt us.

I get the feeling they are going to rerelease a lot of older games that we have seen before with a few bells and whistles.

Also the consoles are just mid ranged pcs at best in a box of marketing and hype. Are we just going to get basic pc ports that wont really push our more powerful hardware.

Plus the best console games are normally exclusives anyways.

Hopefully will mean when they port over the games our versions might look better than their previous efforts. Also with the new consoles being closer to PC's now the ports in general might not be as buggy.

The new generation of consoles certainly lack the 'wow' factor. Some of the footage I've seen look like games from my old PC back catalogue.

Normally, they have a few AAA games that look stunning and are total different class from the previous machines but this time around they look the same but in a higher resolution.

I was toying with the idea of grabbing a PS4 but I will definitely hold off for a year or so when it's a bit cheaper.

Can't help but think Msoft and Sony have kind of missed the boat this time round.

The only good thing about the graphics being better at launch is we might actually start getting decent ports this time.

Indeed i havent seen anything that looks much better than Crysis 3 maxed out yet : /

It is a very underwhelming console generation release in my opinion.

I would prefer to see less graphics and better gameplay/stories. Far less sequels would be good as well, fed up with downloading 10-15gb games just to watch a movie with little interaction. So if xbone and PS4 can't really produce 60fps at 1080p maybe devs will have to settle for better stories/gameplay.

PC's will always be ahead, but the multi-plat games will always be designed for consoles first.

PC exclusives are almost non existent these days, so we will probably never see the full potential of what a top end PC can produce.

Console games are excellently coded for the hardware they are on so perform well with less.

PC games are poorly coded for the hardware they are on (usually ports) so need high power and perform inefficiently.

Sadly there is a lack of worthwhile PC exclusives these days.

Don't forget we'll all be buying 4k monitors over the next few years, and consoles will still be stuck at less than 1080p for the next 8/9/10 years
