Honda marries vtec with forced induction - finally!

Meh I did this years ago, EG Civic 1.6 running 240 bhp at 8000 rpm, mine would actually rev passed 8500 rpm, I'm not sure where the limiter was after the remap.

I do hope they don't fail with this. FD2 with 280+ bhp and revving to 8k would be my dream.

Meh, if you want revs get a bike, you lot going on about 9k rpm... try 15.5.

I don't see the appeal of VTEC personally, lots of noise and not a great deal of go, but then I guess I've never driven one on a track.(as 98% of owners won't have)

An S2000 has similar power to your 330Ci

we do want to keep the Honda character and although this is quite a challenge the new Type R will be the highest revving turbo engine on the market.

Quite a claim! so is that on the market in it's target segment? What do it's competitors rev to?

Highest revving turbo engine currently on the market: 2100rpm

Honda's superior revving turbo engine: 2200rpm

Jobs a gud'un.

read your post a few times, not sure if its meant to be funny/ironic etc.

anyway.

Quick google tells me the new S55 engine from BMW rev's to around 7500rpm although being a six cylinder and probably in a car thats not in the same corner of the market as a type r thats why I asked "compared with which cars" above.

VTEC can make a 1.8 fwd car keep up with you 3.0 rwd over 1/4 mile.

People always slate Honda for not having torque, in reality they have equal torque to other same size engined cars. I knew a guy that had a chipped Golf TDi, he asked me how much torque I had, I told him 135 lb/ft, he laughed and said his Golf had 317 lb/ft and it would eat be for breakfast. After a little drive down a dual carriageway, he admitted my Integra was quicker.

I used to own a 1.6 vti and it was brilliant! loved to drive it hard & rag the heck out of it...This new type r has to move with times, I'm sure it will be quick but not the choice of the B series crew. I am sure it will be a lot more tunable compared to its competitors.
