Failure to go on school trip is now racist!

Forcing it down their throat, so that's what teaching is called these days. God forbid your kids have a balanced view on life, just a shame they'll grow up as narrow minded as you.

Many of us feel that all forms of religion are not only nonsense but also contribute to many of the world's ills. Not wanting to pay for a day out to further such indoctrination is not being narrow minded but is making a considered decision on what we want or children to be taught. I do agree on a grounding in religion so that the child can make their own decisions when they are older. But it will be a cold day in hell (if that existed lol) before I would willingly pay for my children to be brainwashed.

And that is exactly what I see such education as; social engineering.

Typical GD responses. School messes up - Muslims and Islam gets the blame.

I have a lot of respect for what I learnt in my RE lessons. A trip to the local church, mosque, gurdwara etc was not an 'indoctrine' session but was actually respected by all pupils as a way of learning and hence being tolerant of other peoples faiths and beliefs.

Nice to see the usual contributors to this forum using this thread as a 'lets have a go at islam' session again.

Pathetic.

I assume by the use of indoctrination you are referring to me. If so then please read all my posts again. They clearly highlight that I treat it Islam in the same way as Christianity and my children's immediate family are Muslim.

I stand by my statement that such forced religious education is state indoctrination by way of social engineering.

Ah another Daily Fail article.

An another opportunity to bash Muslim/Islam. Pretty much standard in GD

Yep and the resident ignorant retards in GD are out in force too:rolleyes:

I couldnt see anywhere in the article where it said that children will be forced to convert to Islam:confused:..its a ****ing trip to go see some islamic artefacts and a workshop to learn about islam...i really fail to understand why you lot in here have an issue with that??. Unless its some evil conspiracy by muslims to convert these kids to islam by going on this trip.

GD just keeps on giving...its hilarious really.

I think the issue is more that it's not a religion with values in keeping with our society.

It's not like Christianity which has a strong heritage (whether you are pro it or not). It's a relatively new introduction to the country (in real terms) and as such it is quite understandable that maybe people want nothing to do with it.

Do elaborate, friend!

Well historically there was a fair amount of tension between the religions, with Christianity/Catholicism holding the greatest market share by far in this country. Hell technically for the greater part of history it was illegal!

Even in more modern times (past hundred years) with people coming from the British Empire, there was still incredibly small numbers and there was limited or no cultural impact.

It is only in very modern times that the numbers have shot up (a warning sign indeed), from 1.5 million in the 2001 census to 2.7 million in the 2011 census. This is still only 5% of the population of the country, so why it is given so much air time is beyond me.

As for not being part of our values you only have to look at the desired lack of separation between religion and state, cultural/religious values towards women, apostasy, gays, animal rights etc.

Would you call Muslim children racist for refusing to go on a school trip to a catholic church?

No why would i??...i would think that the parents are retards if they didnt send their kids to a christian workshop...i dont see the harm in children learning about different religions or cultures. If it was my child and there was a trip to a catholic church id happily send them as id rather my kids didnt grow up to be ignorant retards. But then again im not an ignorant chav who gets fed their knowledge by the DM.

When i was a kid, we had various trips to churches and stuff and my parents never batted an eyelid and sent me and my brothers on our merry way. I actually enjoyed those trips in all honesty and i wasnt forced into being a christian lol.

but did you get branded a racist if you didn't go?

Would schools send letters home to the Muslim children if they wanted to take the class to a Catholic church. I'm sure they would say that was racist as well/

I remember the explicitly non-Christian pupils in my junior school always skipped the hymns during assembly and never had to go to talks about Christianity but were never called racist and nobody ever really cared (except for maybe jealousy that they didn't have to sit through that cack :p).

I'm sure Muslim parents would be equally happy to be forced to pay for a trip for their kids to visit a university and hear a talk by Richard Dawkins... Perhaps get involved in some work shops where primitive belief systems are show for what they really are...

Say a bunch of people moved into my local community and prayed each night to a sun god in order to ensure the sun rises in the morning... then I'm sure they might be interesting for a child to learn about however its hardly essential that children then go to sun god worshiping workshops or see sun god worshiping artifacts... Nor is it essential that a child see Christian, Jewish or Islamic artifacts... they can quite happily learn about all sorts of human beliefs in their RE class. If I had a kid I wouldn't, in general, object to them going on such a trip... its only £5 and might be interesting. However its hardly essential, shouldn't be compulsory if payment is required and if I received that sort of letter from the school I'd certainly be more than a bit miffed with the head teacher.

Frankly she has got a lot of explaining to do and ought to be having a meeting without coffee with some superiors from the local education authority.

Surely you are not in a position to determine what is essential or not. I would say the school/teachers are in a better position to make qualified decisions on such matters.
