Hi,

I've got a business trip to India coming up soon. I am planning on taking a few days holiday off the back of it.

Now the meeting I have is in Hyderabad, which is right in the middle. I am thinking of doing 1 of two things:

1) Flying in to Mumbai and on the way back from Hyderabad, somehow getting out to some area out of the city, as I hear the beaches are good

2) Flying into Hyderabad, and then getting an internal flight (Expensive!!) down to Goa.

Are there any other options worth considering?

Thanks

Mysore for the Indian life, visit the rural areas
Kovalam for the beach
Head north from there go see the Meenakshi Temple

P.S. Never been to India but I will sooooon. I want to visit all of it, do a tour right through the jungles not just the holiday areas.

2) Flying into Hyderabad, and then getting an internal flight (Expensive!!) down to Goa.

Whos the flight with? I flew from Bengaluru airport to Goa and it was about 50quid return. Only booked the flight the night before too! Think it was spice jet

Go to Kerala. Probably one of the nicest parts of India. Mumbai is a hole, don't bother. Goa is quite nice but really commercialised and touristy. For a few days you could go to a game reserve and get a 2 day safari watching tigers, that's what I'd do.

Over the border, go to Pakistan, I hear that the people there are very friendly and are always willing to help you.

Edit: Damn it, just realised only 3 posts back someone beat me to it :(

Thanks all - any more suggestions?

* Take a few months off :D *
Rajasthan:

Pushkar - Beautiful town. Visit the temple just outside the town
Jaisalmer - Careful of getting a Hotel that doesn't include a camel safari
Udaipur - Stunning town
Jaipur - Also worth a visit for shopping and sight seeing

Explore Mumbai if you have the stomach for crazy busy. Worth exploring imo.

Goa:

Chapora for a small community like stay close enough to the main bits.(Recommended)
Anjuna for the more 'party type' atmosphere
Baga, Calangute if you like the package holiday types
Vagator if you like Italians, beautiful beach (Small Vagator)
Panjim - Good for restaurants and churches
Arambol - Off the beaten track beaches with old hippies
Palolem - Stunning beaches with annoying people (recommended)

Gokarna - One of my favourites. Great temple and lots of history
Can't recommend it but slept on the beach for about 2 weeks
Om beach - Like the bermuda triangle (I could have stayed there forever and nobody would have known)
Half moon beach - Lovely beach but plenty of pretentious Goan hippies at the time
Paradise beach - Was nudist at the time which was scary and amusing at times

Hampi!! (Bedrock) - Amazing place, just make sure you bring mossie repellent

Kochin in Kerala - Fishing and backwater trips a must.

Pondichery - Worth going just to hear Indian French :)

Madras (Chennai) - One of my favourite citys. The food is fantastic!

Varanasi - Probably the most spiritual place in India. The river Ganges and the place where the 'burning ghats' are. Funerals a plenty. Do a boat trip early in the morning for sun up and the same for sunset.

Kolkata - So much to see and a City with real character.

Himachal Pradesh:

Manali - Mountains (Beautiful)
Dharamsala - Amazing place (Saw the Dalai Lama briefly)

So many more places, just do as many as possible. Sorry for the lack of detail but, I've travelled India 3 times and there is too much information to throw up here :P

Jodhpur Fort. The single best audio tour i've ever heard.

Stay here and enjoy the fort by night on the roof.

Jaipur - should visit, Chennai aswell, and recommend Mandrem beach in Goa if you're looking for a nice beach. I would say Southern India is a nicer place to visit, so try focus on visiting cities within the south.
