I really do not see the reason spelling and grammar police exist online...a forum is a place for casual discussion, I do not understand the problem if someone types brought instead of bought. They're not writing a novel they are simply interacting casually with other internet users on a casual forum.

My spelling and grammar is usually 100% and yeah this post is going to be picked apart for ironic effect but really, why do spelling and grammar police exist online I don't know.

Its just annoying reading a opening post with a simple grammar or spelling error, thats plainly obvious what the poster means, then there's 3 or 4 replies correcting their error. Highly annoying.

I think if someone says brought you obviously know they meant bought so why correct them? I don't get the need for it at all.

Thanks...

Yeah that about sums it up. Reading the initial 3 or 4 grammar nazi replies to a opening post with a grammar error is just infuriating at times though.

In the real world or work, other people will use your spelling mistakes and grammatical errors against you so personally I don't mind being corrected on online forums. Better here than in front of the customer. There's no doubt in my mind that my grammar has improved thanks to this forum.

Its just annoying...

It's :)

Depends a bit on the approach - I don't mind if someone is like oh btw... but when they try to use it to belittle you and/or keep making silly comments about it you have to wonder.

There are some that do get to me but its mostly people being sloppy rather than ignorant i.e. lower case i when it should be capital.

Saying things like 'brought' instead of 'bought' when talking about having purchased something is just plain wrong. I mean, I probably couldn't be bothered to correct someone on a forum for it but it doesn't annoy me if someone else does because at the end of the day it's incorrect.

Surely the offender is being done a favour by being corrected as it may save them the embarrassment of seeming like a primary school child, rather than the literate adult they should be.

:p

Because they feel the need to compensate for other areas in which they fail.

I agree though it is very annoying, though I do find poor spelling and grammar very annoying, I wouldn't go out of my way to correct it.

I can't even mostly try to going for when absolutely typing all posts forgivingly towards when she was went purple for serious.

Anyway, Мені не сподобалося брудний граматику і орфографію. Це змушує мене хочуть вбити кролика. Jeg skal ikke la det komme til meg, men jeg kan ikke hjelpe for det.

It does depend on the context, however if someone asks a question and can't be bothered to check their post for basic spelling/grammar then why should I be bothered trying to answer said question?

I completely concur with Scuzi's post just there though :)

You'd be surprised to find out that simply correcting a mistake is not what it's about for most people when it comes to brought and bought because lots of people actually say brought when they mean bought yet don't even know that brought does NOT mean "to buy".

I've heard quite a few people say it too.
