Anyone tired even though they do nothing?

I think a tv show once informed me that too much sleep is poisonous, and that the chemical that keeps you immobilised is mildly dangerous after 9hrs.

sleep clears toxins from your brain fact.
to much sleep makes you still feel tired in the morning but I have never heard of it being dangerous.

if you sleep for 12 hours you will feel more tired when you wake up than if you slept for say 8 hours.

that chemical that keeps you immobilised is likely still happening when your in a coma and people can be in comas for years and wake up normal still apart from any damage sustained in the accident that lead them to a coma obviously.

they never wake up with brain damage etc from any chemical

Despite being relatively fit and getting 8 hours sleep every night i still find myself falling asleep at my desk sometimes.

Ive tried to change things in my diet, drinking more water, more excercise etc but i don't know why it happens.

But yeah the less you do, the more tired you become as a general rule.

Had this myself a long time ago. It was because I hardly ever went out and ate like crap.

No, croque madames are not healthy.

Is this like the thing where if you sleep for too long you feel as tired as if you don't sleep enough?

Personally I think this is just a weeks worth of bad sleep catching up on me. It's still frustrating though, I literally do nothing but sit on my arse, I shouldn't be tired.

Does anyone else get this?

Doing nothing makes you tired. Try doing exercise, yes you will more tired after the exercise but in general in the mornings and days you will feel way better.

Yeah I suffer from constant fatigue, self prescribed myself Modafinil.

My life became awesome in about 30 minutes of it kicking it, I realised I've never been awake my entire life....

I exercise, eat healthy try maintain good sleep hygiene.

Think I was plagued with chronic fatigue/bad genetics. If only I had that stuff in uni and when I applied to medical school, I would have come out without my desired grade. I spent my teen years nackered....

What do you mean self-prescribed? Isn't modafinil a controlled substance?

Is there a scientific reason behind this theory though?

I'd imagine it's because your body adapts to your life style, so if do nothing it's not going to be making a ton of energy for you not to use so when you do need energy it doesn't have any. Like the opposite of doing regular exercise. Your diet and sleep patterns will also play apart in your energy levels along with whether you drink and smoke.

I keep waking up during the night which leaves me knackered the next day. Very frustrating.

Starting to think I have sleep apnea or similar. Also got constant issues with my sinus'.

I sleep badly when I get too hot, this doesn't help going to the gym every week night, so I have to sleep with the window open even it's freezing outside.

not exactly true.

I've been feeling tired nearly all week from getting only 7 hours sleep a day , I need at least 9 hours and whilst I'm not exactly "fit" I do cycle frequently although not for about a month thanks to the rain.

even when I do a few hundred miles in a month I don't feel like I have more energy than when I'm lazy

constant abuse of almost anything will make you feel low if you don't have a recovery period.

drink 10 cups of a coffee a day for a week ;)

ONLY 7 hours?

This was me almost 12 months ago I was working full time and I have three young children so obviously they keep be very busy but I was always tired and I mean always. I would get home from work and just fall awleep in the chair before I had eaten my dinner. I would be tired at work even once falling asleep at my desk.

So, I went to the doctors and I did a written test and then I was refered to a consultant and the hospital, I had a sleep test which confirm I have sleep apnea, and it is infact one of the worse cases the hospital had ever seen, sometimes people who are overweight and have bad diet and dont get much excercise can get it and losing the weight eating well and excercises would be the first step on the ladder to improvement but in my case I am active, not overwright and I eat fairly well. So yeah since February of this year I have had a CPAP machine which has all but cured my sleepyness :)

Sounds like my dad, he's always falling asleep here and there! He snores pretty bad as well.

Might be worth getting him checked out. :/

Maybe invest in some Gunnar glasses, they reduce the glare from monitors. I have never tried them though. Perhaps the glare makes your eyes slightly sore which you interpret as feeling tired.

Doing nothing makes you tired, in my experience. Try inserting some routine into your daily life. Get up at a set time, do some things that need doing, shopping, tidying etc. Exercise helps too, it gets the endorphins flowing, makes you feel happier and more alive!

You gotta move your lymph, it's designed to be moved! I know what you mean I get like that too, feels like your body goes to sleep because it has nothing to do.

Chronic fatigue is quite common and is unrelated to exercise and diet as many seem to think. Stimulants ranging from modafinil to amphetamine work remarkably well, but few doctors are competent enough to prescribe them and erroneously frequently attribute such symptoms to the aforementioned factors.

What do you mean self-prescribed? Isn't modafinil a controlled substance?

No.

Serotonin/melatonin imbalance, Seasonal Affective Disorder? But as the name implies, this is associated with tiredness (among other symptoms) from late autumn to early spring.
