** VTX3D R9 290 PRE-FLASHED TO R9 290X & VOLTAGE UNLOCKED!! **

Must admit for the cost I would happily just buy the card off the shelf from OCUK. And I'm some one whos fundimentally against pre overclocked systems and such things. (At least from certain other e-tailers)

Parcels arrived, great service as always thank you guys :)

My friend is going to be so surprised when he sees 290X in his new system rather than the 280X I said I was getting him!

Well, I have already ordered the flashed to 290x VTX.

I gonna see how the stock cooler do first. If it really is quite bad, I just gonna buy a Gelid Icy Vision Rev2 cooler and install that. Only cost around £30, and it seems to perform quite well according to this:

Yea saw that and looks really impressive but I would expect that the MK-26 paired with some decent fans would do a better job tbh which is what i'm going to go for when I getz ma monies. But that Geild Icy Vision Rev2 you can't beat on price/performance that's for sure!

Do these solutions cool the VRMs as well?

Yes they have VRM and ram chip coolers but im my experience they are not that great because they don't stick down well. So i'm going to pair it with Alpenföhn Passive DRAM / VRAM Chip Coolers with possibly some adhesive tape. But yes both the Gelid and MK-26 have what you asked.

Well I just set mine up, thought Id set Arkham city to max graphics to see how loud the fan was... I dont think AC is challenging the card really, as it seems quieter than my old 6870, lol. I think Furmark might be the choice if I wanna see how loud it gets.

Also I downloaded the latest drivers but cant see the overclock/fan control settings in the catalyst control center?

So these cards are identical to a 290x once flashed? What about over clock headroom? I'm without a PC at the moment but looking at the price of these am thinking of putting a system back together

Normally there's a reason why certain GPUs have been downgraded to a lower model, however, we don't really know why some 290's have functional 290x chips on. So without testing, we won't know what sort of headroom they have in comparison.

Because its cheaper than making seperate chips with less SP in them. They just lock them instead.

As far as I can tell, 290's which unlock to 290X have exactly the same chance as hitting high overclocks as "real" 290X's. The only known/available quantifier for how AMD grades it's GPU's is via ASIC quailty. My XFX 290 (which flasehed successfully to 290X) had an ASIC of 72%. Many "real" 290X's have lower ASIC quality, so I really do not think these cards are binned. Also my 290 overclocked with stability to 1150/6000 @ 290X on the reference cooler. Many 290X's cannot reach these speeds.

I am convinced that AMD simply allowed a number of 290X cores to enter the 290 supply stream due to shortage of laser cut 290 parts. A 290 which unlocks to 290X should overclock just well as your average 290X. As with the 6950's that unlocked to 6970's in the early days of the 6000 series.

Mine arrived this morning bright and early. Up and running now, love it!

The below are a straight swap from 2x5850s, no driver change, no nothing, literally just power down, swap cards, power up.

Installing Windows 8.1 from scratch now, needed a clean up anyway!
