If I buy one of the Dell or HP OE Windows 7 discs that are commonly available, do they add the laptop maker's bloatware, as well as the basic Windows 7 operating system? I am intending to load Win 7 on a new home build full size PC. Thanks!

No. From my experience it won't ask for a product key on installation, will use the manufacturer's logo as your user account icon and put the manufacturer details down in system properties. That's about it, nothing major that cannot be changed,

How much is just the license if I chose the download route please? Win 7 64 bit Pro, thanks. Ohh, and what's the version "without media"? Cheers.

The license is what you pay for anyway.

It's £80 for an OEM license on OcUK for Windows 7.

It's £72 however for Windows 8.1, which is what I suggest for a new PC. If you don't like the interface you can always install StartisBack/Start8 or Classic Shell to get the Start Menu back.

Thanks, so what is a "without media" version? I want the OS solely for specialized amateur radio usage with a software defined radio, and stripping the OS of all flab is both appealing and even perhaps necessary. Does Windows 7 64 bit have a similar feature to XP, where you can set for bells and whistles or performance, or various interim stages? System Properties - Advanced - Performance? To be honest I have always run XP with all the bells and whistles removed, even for normal usage. I need 7 for access to a lot more RAM. Cheers.
