Wii U or Xbox 360 for 9yr old daughter?

Thinking about getting my daughter one of the above consoles and need a little help choosing which one.

She's currently got a Wii at her mums house where she lives, and likes mario games (mainly Mario Kart). But when she comes round to mine she plays on my 360, stuff like the lego games, however she also likes playing stuff like forza and Burnout.

My main issues with the Wii is that it's more than double the price, the games are all expansive (She wouldn't be wanting the latest 360 games, so i'd be able to pick games up at £15-£20 a time). I doubt she'd use all the movement stuff as she has trouble with her hips that limits her movement and ability to run and jump around.

However I think she'd miss playing the mario games if i got her the 360. Also with the one now out, how much longer will the 360 be supported for (not a massive issue i guess with the number of games already out for it, but still something to consider)?

I can get the 360 new for £100 or with kinect for £130, the Wii U is £240 with Mario bundle. So a big price difference.

Any help would be appreciated.

Having had the lot, the winner by far in our house is the Wii U (9 year girl and 8 year old boy), they love Lego City, Adore Mario, spend ages on Nintendo land etc, their friends all head straight for it as well

Why not PS3? It also has lots of games suitable for children.

Wii U would only be worth if it she really wants Nintendo games

WiiU for sure. She can play all the current Wii games (loads of which you can pick up for peanuts) plus the new WiiU stuff. The new Mario games are great btw and the new 3d Mario and Mario Kart both look the business. Donkey Kong's out soon, Pikmin, the Lego games - I suspect she'd love Lego City Undercover - plus a bunch of others :)

Agreed...the deals right now with Mario etc are indeal starting ground also. Plus there will be plenty of new games from Nintendo as you go along.

Plus there may well possibly be something on there for you too :)

it has to be the wii u my two seven year old nieces love theres. there are loads of games suitable they have just dance 4 a sonic race game rayman lego city and i will get mario 3d for there christmas present. oh they also use there old wii games and wii motes from there old wii which is a bonus:D

My daughter (Nearly 4 years old) Absolutely loves the Wii U. Her favorites games are Mario and Wii U party U. Can't beat Nintendo when it comes to child friendly games.

Thanks for the input guys. The main reason i was looking at the 360 is because of the cost difference. However it looks like the Wii might be the better option based on your comments.

Anyone seen any good deals? cheapest i can find is £240 with mario bundle. It was only £200 a couple weeks ago at shopto though apparently, and i saw it at Game for £220 on friday, but it seems they've all increased the prices again now.

Wii U for all reasons already mentioned plus Microsoft has a habit of just dropping support very quickly e.g. Original Xbox and Games For Windows!

My daughters are 10 & 13 & they love the Wii U.
They have never bothered playing with the ps3 or 360 all in the same room, I guess they prefer the ease of control options via the Gamepad and wiimotes.
Nintendoland is a firm favourite of theirs.
Also they have showed zero interest in the Xbox One which suddenly appeared on Friday :)

Im confused, shes got access to a Wii at her mums and a 360 at yours - does she need another console? To me this sounds like a solution looking for a problem, unless you just give her yours and upgrade yourself to a next-gen console?

ps3ud0

The best reviewed nextgen game this year isn't on PS4 or Xbox One it's on Wii U and goes by the name of Super Mario 3D World.

Enough said ;)

Ignore thestig smelt this thread from ten miles away.
He also seems to think your young daughter cares about "more games"
