Guys , if you can please need some import costs please

My dad wants a pair of Baffin Titan Wellington boots , the only place I can find them are the big auction site and costs vary but they are around £60 plus £30 in postage charges to the UK .

What would UK customs charge on a £60 purchase price ? I take it I would only be charged these custom cost on the purchase price and not the postage ?

Approximately amount is good thanks .

Customs will value the total package at £90 as shipping is included in calculation, no duty due to value but VAT will be charged so looking at £18 charge on top of the purchase and shipping. Any shipping insurance also counts so would raise the charge.

Handling fee plus VAT will be added. Customs will assess this from the package and send you a letter asking for money before they release the package to you.

If it is coming via Parcel Force (i.e. shipped via EMS) then you can just phone up and pay once it hits your local depot rather than wait for the letter ... saves a bit of time.

Customs will do no such thing and the letter he will receive will not be from customs
The handling charge is nothing to do with customs nor added by them.

Perhaps not from customs. What I have received when importing goods is a letter with an outstanding cost for handling and VAT. Let's not be pedantic.

Let's not accept the handling fee at face value as something customs adds on.

RM/PF add the handling fee even though the postage is already paid by the sender.

I do not agree with it which is why I am being so pedantic, I didn't mean it as some kind of attack on you, I just wanted to get it out there

The last 2 parcels I've had from the US have had Import VAT which obviously varies, plus a £17 Customs Duty and an £8 Clearance Fee.

Total rip off.

I don't agree with it either. Really shouldn't be there or there should be a system where you can prepay the VAT easily and avoid the handling fee.

Last time I had something from the states I got an email invoice to pay the duty before it was released. Saves looking for cash on the door.

Having paid postage already is nothing to do with a handling fee.

so you agree with the handling fee? I know it's not exactly the same as postage but it's still BS.

RM/PF have a monopoly on it as well? never had anyone else collect my goods from customs

I just ordered some stuff from the US but the total value of the goods was $20.

I shouldn't get hit with an import charge, should I?
