This is bugging me. I've reinstalled DXtory to take some gameplay footage on Windows 8.1, but the record function doesnt seem to work even though the program seems to be functioning as normal. I've just had to use Fraps which I absolutely hate for recording gameplay as it makes the picture quality a real mess as you can see here , and the original file sizes are huge.

Does anyone use DXtory on Windows 8.1? or is there another really good program like DXtory to use in place of Fraps?

EDIT: Can a mod move this to the Software forum please, didn't think about putting it there until I posted it in here.

then enlighten me.

I set up Fraps to record at 30fps for youtube as 60fps is a waste of time. Then I tried both Virtual Dub and SonyVegas to compress the video down to a decent size loosing as little quality as I could. Then uploaded to youtube.

so???

Most likely conflicts with MSI Afterburner. Google for the fix. :p
(Would post exact.method but I'm in bed! If you haven't got it sorted tomorrow then I'll post back)

Sorry can't help with the problem.

Does AMD not have something similiar to Nvidia with Shadowplay? I hope it does.

Records at 60fps with zero loss of frames

got it figured guys, it was my Rivatuner statistics server that was getting in the way of it. Turned the overlay off in there and its fine now. And DXtory is indeed awesome, so much to do.

Question regarding Compression. I've always been a massive supporter of VirtualDub to compress my videos down to a nice small size. But is there now anything better to use?

Glad you found it, just saw this thread again :p

The way to do it (to have both running) is set it to "None" for the Dxtory.exe - and if you still have issues after that then..
Close Afterburner and Dxtory, start the game, open Dxtory, open Afterburner.
If that doesnt work then it's

Are you using the Lagarith codec m8?

yes mate always used that codec with DXtory.

I was just wondering now times have moved on, if there was a better combination of program and codec. I've always been a massive believer of DXtory and the Lagarith Codec for recording, then VirtualDub to compress video using the Xvid MPEG-4 Codec and compressing audio with the Lame MP3 codec.
