The first responder fireman who worked at the plant all got fatal doses. They cut the contaminated clothes off them in the local hospital, before shipping them to the radiation clinics in Moscow, and ditched the clothes in basement for lack of a better place. These outfits are some of the most radioactive things in Pripyat city.

Is that the Polish guy? A friend of mine went on a Polish expedition recently and got some really cool access. Stayed in zone past curfew watching films on a projector in Pripyat, boat trip on the lakes and putting together a helicopter fly over I believe.

Thats him, lives in the UK, up north I believe. Like the sound of being able to stay late in Pripyat. We had to leave zone by 4:30, not sure what time the last workers train leaves Chernobyl.

I have read that book and boy is it grim in places. Makes you realise how aweful those first few hours actually were.

Nice video. Believe it or not, we actually got lost down there for a couple of minutes. Couldn't find the exit to the stairs!
Not sure when the video was taken, but there is a rumour that some of the clothes have actually been removed, along with a Helmet as well. God only knows who would be stupid enough to do that, unless it was the authorities worried about contaminated artefacts being removed from the zone.

I find the whole incident absolutely amazing, it was before my lifetime, but still find it fascinating.
