Credit card payment got blocked when i tryed to order two GTX 780ti this morning

My purchases are done through paypal because all my orders are blocked through my debit card. It's quite amazing how I have zero issues making purchases through paypal, yet as soon as I go the direct route it's instantly blocked.

My bank decided to call me after several failed attempts to purchase something. I told them this issue has always happened with this specific card. They come to the conclusion that the card didn't exist on their system. Which is weird as I could deposit/withdraw money from it without issue. It wasn't my primary card, but it always served that function well. Anyway, they cancelled that card and sent me out a new one and it still blocks me purchasing from any company with some sort of fraud security.

For that reason I use Paypal for all my major purchases.

First purchase I made through Overclockers was with paypal, as previously I would just give my brother the money and he would order it for me off his account. I ordered on Thursday afternoon/evening as that's when my wages goes in my account and unfortunately it took a while to process first time (it ended up being cleared Friday morning) as they do their own security checks for first time purchase, this made me miss the Friday delivery slot. A quick e-mail to Overclockers to ask about the system and they explained it's generally a one off check for paypal and it's a lot quicker for future purchases and announced that it had cleared the checks without problem, so it should be a lot smoother from now on. They also boosted my delivery to Saturday delivery free of charge. Which quite frankly was a great touch that they didn't have to do.

My Credit card payment got blocked this morning when i tryed to order two GTX 780ti's from OCuk because my credit card company detected the payment as an unusual activity and blocked it....:(

So now I missed out on the 780ti deals because of my stupid bank...

This is the second or third time I had this happen to me when I ordered from Ocuk..but never anywhere else..

Was it your banks sanity check?
Like....have a word with yourself.....really....two? :p;)

whenever I order from here using my CC the first time through checkout it always blocks it.I just go straight back to the checkout again. It always seems to go through the second time :D

 I was just about to buy the 2 for 1 offer on 780TI's but my Credit Card failed and the offer ended, Any chance of you adding the offer again just for me ?

:D

I vaguely remember one of the staff saying on here a while ago that OcUK and tech places in general get hit by a lot of card fraud so that's why an unusual amount of people can end up having transactions blocked.

PC part web companies are renowned for credit card fraud and hence the bank tries to protect you.

I used to know the owner of the "Bolton" place and they got hundreds a day of fake orders on stolen cards. So they are "extra" careful nowadays.

Drat....I just had a similar experience. Had a terrible experience with a certain "imaging device" retailer and a pair of Zotac 780 Amps in SLI and am pursuing a refund, saw these 780 Ti's going at an unbelievable price quickly went through to order 2....wouldn't let me so ordered 1 at 5AM, logged out and made a new account to order another and it was in by basket at the reduced price, soon as I went to checkout it was back at full price, this was at 5.03-5.06AM...

So I'm a bit up the creek without a paddle....desperately had a think and saw the MSI 780s at a nice price so ordered 2 of them....but I don't really want them... :/

Oh dear...I'll ring in once you guys have opened and try sort this mess out please help me Gibbo :)

EDIT - have called up and cancelled the 2 cards, but kept the 1 Ti 780...

Here's hoping for a miracle that Gibbo can help and source another 780 Ti :):):)

Your bank is trying to help you. It is a very useful service. In future, call them in advance. My bank recently blocked a £950 transaction by an apparently media-related company. I was relieved to say the least.

Been happening for me lately with Barclays + OcUK even when I phone the bank to get it cleared it still gets blocked :( phoning OcUK they can usually put the order through manually without it being blocked. Was using paypal for a bit to work around it but thats started saying address not verified (it is) but was able to buy gibbo's recent deals on my card without it blocking fortunatly.

Happened to me a month or so ago when I ordered a laptop, Halifax blocked the payment, so called them and they said it was sorted, tried again, failed, but this time I got an automated call to confirm the purchase, followed the instructions and confirmed everything and said that was fine, tried again, failed, had to phone them again and wait for the purchase to go through whilst they were still on the phone. Epic fail.

^^ If your buying laptops its usually a lot less hassle to phone the order in as laptop purchases will almost always trigger fraud prevention at one end or the other. It shouldn't really be doing it for the other stuff though unless its really different to your normal purchasing habits.

Count yourself lucky... sort of.. NATWEST have let me buy £2500 worth of stuff with OCUK only to block my card 3 days later and ask me to phone them to sort it. They then checked the details of certain transactions - including the 2.5k one!! Let the money go and items be delivered- AND THEN CHECK! Epic stuff

So maybe it isn't such a bad thing
