Cars, do you ever get bored?

With the Leon I got bored of the developing niggles more than anything.

With the Focus I still love driving it, I look forward to driving it all the time. I can't see myself changing it for a few years yet, unless someone offers me a Mk2 RS for an absolute steal.

Every time I've owned a car I've always casually browsed Auto Trader to see if there's anything else I fancy. Since buying my current car (E39 530i) I don't think I've bothered to do that once. I'd have to spend several times what I paid for this to come close to getting a better all round package and I'm perfectly content.

every single car I've owned I've got bored with and I like to think over the years I've had some decent marques.

The grass is always greener, even when I get my Veyron two weeks later Bugatti will annoy me by releasing an all carbon version with custom luggage space for my hairdryers and curling tongs.....

I used to ride sports bikes so when moving back to cars performance wasn't really on the list as I knew I could never afford a car to match the insanity of the GSXR.

Recent cars:

2000 Honda Accord 1.8: Nice car but lacking in goodies. Was getting a bit old
2005 Ford Mondeo 2.0 LX TDCi: Nice handling, not many toys but that diesel clatter drove me up the wall
2005 Honda Accord 2.4i: Lovely car, great reliability. A few dash squeaks got on my nerves but main reason to change is I wanted more torque (still got the car though)
2006 Mazda 6 MPS: Loads of toys, AWD, awesome torque and BHP, very tuneable and should be very reliable. My needs are finally satisfied! lol

Say, i really do love my ST. It does the job perfectly.

But i can't help but want something 4WD Turbo or RWD N/A or Turbo. 25 soon with 6 years experience and 5 years NCB and going by internet quotes, the STI/Evo might not be do-able for under £1k insurance (not paying anything over ever again).

Even looked at silly things like R33 GTS, Rx7, Supra TT. Silly insurance again....

The 350z seems to tick a lot of boxes when it comes to specs and cheap insurance. Lovely looking interior and kitted out very well. Plus i have always wanted one... Just not sure the Civic will be up to the job when it comes down to airport runs, going down to are static with all the kids gear etc...

I wouldn't say I was bored of mine, just used to it.

Had to drive a corsa 1.4 for a few months, got back in the 182 and it felt epic - however once again I am used to its capabilities.

As I only drive it on weekends it hasn't lost its appeal yet.

I think it was more a Mondeo dig :p

The Mondeo really is a beast of a car for what it is though. Just i want something different.

Mondeo bit was just a joke, I love the ST220 :)

But seriously I'd hate to be tied down like that when I was 24, too young!

Kudos for not doing the usual "I have kids therefore I must give up on life and buy a Qashqai" and instead looking at something fun :D

My current car i don't think I could ever get bored with it as it has a sentimental value and almost like a buddy to me as sad as that sounds.

However I am the type of person who lusts after a particular car every week, mostly old stuff, so I can easily see myself one day having a second car and going through a long list of cars that i would like to own.

lol, too true!

I've got a kid (soon to have another) and a dog yet I manage fine with my car even though it's a saloon. The dog goes on the back seats which are leather so unlike the boot it's easy to clean off the dog hairs plus it's very easy to use a special lead which attaches from his harness to the seat belt connector. The boot is big enough for what I need and is more secure than a hatchback or estate. If I need to move bigger stuff I'll borrow or hire a van.

No compromise on fun though, it's AWD and has 256BHP with 380Nm of torque, but still comes in a nice enough and comfortable cabin with all the usual mod cons. I can drive it like a regular car when loaded with family, drop them off and then unleash the beast! lol

I am at the moment.. don't get me wrong I love my little Citroen, it's comfy and has enough bells and whistles to keep me 'happy' but I miss the power of my Volvo/Cooper S.

Trading it in off my lease when the F56 MINI comes out I think.

It is so difficult if you love cars and driving them.

I personally cringe when I hear of people test driving cars then instantly slating everything about them for a few miles. Cars and their performance, reliability and character are learned and grow on you, not something you get by visiting to your local dealer and get a test drive from them.

I was lucky when I grew up as my father was a sports car dealer. I can remember having a Mercedes 190 Cosworth to use when I was 19. The bodywork was a mess but it went like stink. I thought I would never get bored until I went up against more modern beefier cars that wiped the floor with me. Same again with a 325i.

As much as you think you may have the best car for you it quickly becomes outdated.

I like my cars simple without loads of electronic aids. My old Alfa V6 156 suites me as I have stupidly small budget but is the best fun I can hope for with my cash.

I've been swapping cars like nobody's business recently - tend to buy cheapies, spend a bit of time on them and then swap them for something else (making a few pennies in the process).

Harmless fun really - just have to pinch myself to avoid coming home with something like a 540i Touring (nearly happened before Xmas!)

I've only ever sold one car, the rest get run until they need to be scrapped.

I've had my Westfield for 7 years - I'll never sell it.

First car - Sierra 2.0i Ghia I owned from 21 until 28 - 7 years - and only got rid as it rusted away and I put the engine/running gear into the Westfield.

Next car was a Ford Scorpio Cosworth that I had for a few years - didn't get bored of it but did sell it on when a lower mileage/newer/better condition of the exact same car came up for sale - still own that car and I'll only get rid when it's scrap material - which is unlikely as I've just had a lot of body work (rear wings, sills etc) done on it to bring it back up to scratch.

Lexus LS 400 I've had for around 5 years now - can't see me selling that either.

Also building an electric Cobra hard top - that'll be a keeper too.
