I'd like something a bit faster but also something that will run reasonably cool and quiet if there's such a thing

Budget of around £200 but the cheaper the better tbh

What are my options?

I7 920 @ 3.8
6gb ram pc12800
Ssd drive
X58 motherboard
dell 2408hc monitor
Sonar dx sound card
5870 gfx card

It runs most stuff pretty decently but I've been getting an itch to upgrade something heh

This is one of the options but it depends what benefits I'll see for the money , may also get a larger monitor or another 24"

I have similar setup and I went crossfire - got a 2nd 5870 and it's amazing. Got the itch to upgrade also though but can't really justify it as this runs everything including battlefield 4 great! :(

just upgraded from my 5870 clocked to a ghz version :) to a windforce gtx 780 love it so much quieter and more powerful was worth every penny

It's a possibility but I think the extra heat and noise might annoy me

It would be nice but way over my budget

I'm in the same situation. Currently running:

i5-4570
SSD boot drive + two "normal" data drives
HD5870 1GB
Acer 24" & Acer 19.5"
Prodigy mini-ITX case
Win7x64

It runs everything I play at the moment pretty well, but I do want to upgrade the second monitor to 24" or greater in the not-too-distant future and I'm thinking the memory on the HD5870 is going to start getting limiting. I did have two crossfired but no longer have room in the mini-ITX case so that's not an option.

I'd be looking for something in the £200-250 range. Any suggestions welcome, many thanks.

I upgraded from a 5850 toxic 2gb (my boy has it now) to a MSI 7950 twin mk 3. A big difference @1440. Brought another MSI 7950 as it was so cheap.

The cooling solution on the Phantom looks like it extends upwards quite a bit, not sure if that would fit in the case (it's pretty tight against the side as it is).

Cheers for pointing me in the right direction now though

You sir are in luck, not all GPU's are created equal and the 5870 left the factory with a trick up it's sleeve that would give an unexpected benefit four years later, that trick is that it's good at mining Litecoin. How good? around 420-430KH/s which puts it on par with the 270X, which basically means if you want a new card that performs better your dropping £200+ on a 280X.

The result of all this is that you can get in excess of £100 for your 5870 simply by mentioning Litecoin in an auction listing, this would see your £200 become £300 which unlocks all sorts of 280X/GTX770 cards or if your willing to save up a little bit more the R290.

Sell your 5870 for around £100 and you will have £300 to play with and get the EVGA GeForce GTX 770 SC ACX and you will have £25 spare.

Or if you want a 4GB and slightly faster card for £24 more go for the Inno3D GeForce GTX 770 iChill HerculeZ X3 Ultra 4096MB.
