So I recently replaced my old 560 with an MSI R9 280X and having some problems with display. For my main monitor, which is fine, I'm using a VGA cable with a VGA to DVI converter (will be getting a proper DVI soon). For the second one, the one that's not ok, that's using a HDMI cable. I've looked into the resolution settings in both Windows and the AMD Catalyst centre and they both say that the monitor is at 1080p, even though there's a massive black border around my monitor and graphically looks nothing like 1080 at all, more like 720p squished into this space. Any ideas?
Going to try downloading the latest drivers now.

If you do the following this may solve your problem:-

1.)In CCC open 'My Digital Flat-Panels'
2.)Open 'Scaling Options (Digital Flat-Panel)' and make sure 'Overscan' is set to 0%.

yup do as above.
I'm surprised amd still have it set like that by default.. who wants a border

I'd be interested to know how loud your 280x is the gigabyte one is ridiculous

Haven't played a game on it yet as I'm sorting everything out, have food soon and buying stuff on Steam sale, but I'll let you know! ATM it's pretty damn quiet.
