Just got myself a Dell UltraSharp U2713HM 27", Coming from a 1080P screen to a 1440P is quite nice but I'm wondering, Should I have gotten something a tier higher or is this a good purchase ?

The H model is a semi pro grade model including wide gamut backlight, 10-bit support and hardware calibration. Hence the extra cost

Not necessarily but there are more people who buy the HM so probably more reports of issues. The H has some inherent issues like poor overdrive control /overshoot problems for instance. It just depends on your needs, really whether you need wide gamut or not

I ahve the u2410 which i believe has the wide gamut and i pretty much after a 27inch version thats as good if not better then the U2410 dell

i have the same monitor, do you also find the anti glare stuff on it a bit annoying now like i do? i was thinking of upgrading to the Samsung S27B970D 27" which would be a big turnaround as that is a purely glossy display

On a technical note, it isn't actually 'purely glossy'. It has a very light matte (semi glossy) surface beneath a glass cover. The screen surface itself is actually similar to the Dell U2713HM and the new Samsung S27B971D. When viewed in a dark room the clarity is quite comparable. When viewed in a room with a bit of light, so you get a bit of ambient reflection, things looks very much like a glossy display. Don't worry about this it is world's away from the U2410's strong matte surface but do be aware of this. :)

thanks for the info i'm having a hard time deciding between the S27B970D and S27B971D. i'm afraid i might be going from one extreme to the other.

Yeah I have the U2713HM monitor and it's a fantastic monitor - managed to dodge the backlight bleed bullet first time which is always nice. I use it for gaming mainly and it has a fantastic picture quality - Crysis 3 maxed out is simply breathtaking on this monitor.

Indeed, I've found myself replaying older games on the higher resolution :p

I received mine today, the bottom left corner is suffering form mild backlight bleed :(

Considering whether I should return it as the picture is otherwise perfect.

E: it would be good if someone without bleed could post a picture of a black screensaver so I can compare it to mine.
