RMA'ing mine, gps is shocking
Lol you are doing it wrong or unlucky and got a faulty one. The gps is the best I have had. I use it for loads. My tacks, maps, sat nav and location pinpointing on social media. Fastest and most accurate I have used and I get atleast 2 top end phones a year. Every year.
So Having owned a Nexus 4 previously and then the S4 and now the N5 here is my take on things...
1. Android 4.4 doesn't seem any different from 4.3. Cant see any new features which has stuck out to me. All mostly seems the same.
2. The S4 defo has the better screen. Blacks are just that where as because of the screen technology the blacks on the N5 are more greyer. Color i feel was better on the S4 although the N5 is brighter. The viewing angles on the N5 are shocking!! No such issue son the S4. With the N5 if you have a dark background and even tilt the device the amount of light that comes through is shocking!
3. Speakers are better on the S4. Much better!
4. Minor but i feel the LED was more better on the S4. Color was far better on it and i miss the location up on the top.
5. Aesthetics....the N5 looks better and feels better in the hand. I like the matt look very much.
6. The protruding lens on the back i don't like so much. Makes the phone rock about and sometimes even sends it to landscape mode.
7. Camera seems about the same interms of picture quality BUT its very hit and miss on the N5 and doesn't fill me with confidence. The N5 is much slower to focus and the lack of features doesn't help either.
8. Sound through headphones is better on the S4. Its much flatter on the N5.
9. The OS is much smoother on the N5 but i always new that when it comes to bare bone Android.
Overall i think the N5 is a great phone for the price but i fail to see what all the hype was about.

Yes, he got a faulty one, which is why he's RMA'ing. What would you suggest instead?
I think mine may well be one of the faulty ones, it can take a fair bit of time to lock (20 seconds perhaps and sometimes longer) but with the WiFi locating on, in actual use I've not yet had any issues, so probably wont bother RMA'ing.

My battery life has gone from amazing to useless in the last 2 weeks or so. I have already factory resorted it twice and it still terrible. I have only a few app installed now to make sure it is not a rouge app, and this is what happened last night while I was sleeping, I restarted it before I went to bed to make sure nothing was running, and only used Hangout for abit then went to bed.
Just for comparison here is a breakdown, screen on time was 25mins, forgot to take a screenshot of that.
I have done the fix for the google play services but it seems to have crept back up again

At the point where I need to charge twice a day, down from not needing to charge a weekend which sucks.

What exactly did you do in your Google services trick?
I had some drain on my S3 and I deleted the data and uninstalled the updates from the app and also deleted the data from the Google Play services framework. Reboot and update the app via pplaystore and now no bad wake locks. Nlpwakelock was one of them.

Basically as you described, I deleted the data, uninstalled updates, did the same for the framework too. I will try it again now.
Just read BetterBatteryStats is working on kitkat (with root) so I will try that for the next few days and see whats up.
Yep, I got a replacement back from eBay for £16. They come with the NFC and vibration motor etc embedded in them.
Very easy to remove too with a guitar plectrum.

I just tried an Ebay search and found one for £16.99... plus £59.99 for economy delivery from London, which sounds more than a bit excessive to me!

anyone else notice a seriously crap reception on this phone? my phone will lose reception, but in the notification bar it shows as full, however if i pull the bar down it shows as zero bars, sometimes not coming back until i go in and out of airplane mode. not good as i'm trying to run a business and i can be without reception and not know.
