6870 & 7950 - 600W?

I would look on the secondhand market for a psu from the likes of Seasonic, Corsair, XFX, Antec etc if your budget is that tight

or just not run the 7950 for a while until you save enough money for a decent psu

looking on the bay there is a cx500 which is about to go and a cx600 which are both good.

The CX500, could that give me enough power for both of the cards?

If you decide to get one new then I'd recommend the 600w Be Quiet! PURE POWER L8. Can be gotten for just over 50 pounds. There might be some cheaper ones, I'll have a look later.

Okay, I'll keep it in my sticky notes. But f or now, would the Antec EA-500D

Be a better choice? Than the corsair

In its description it has "PCI-E connector: one for 380W and 430W, two for 500W".

You need 4 pci-e connectors ideally as both cards need 2. Its a rare feature on cheap power supplies, the be quiet l8 600w is an exception.

I wouldn't get the antec, its more suited for a single gpu, same with the corsair cx500.

The Corsair CX500 may have a 500w label on it but it is in no way a 500w psu. Depending on what version it is it can have either 408w or 456w on the 12v rail. It makes the rest up on the minor rails were it's not needed just like a budget psu. In my opinion the CX series are little better than a cheap generic psu. They have weak rails and cheap internals. Corsair built their reputation on quality units then when they were established swapped to cheaper oems and the quality dissappeared overnight. The original CX400 was a very high quality unit built by Seasonic. Now they are built by CWT and can't touch the original on quality or performance and have a much shorter warranty.

In a similar situation. I have just bought a be quiet 580W Straight Power which seems to rate very highly. Powering a 3750K, SSD, one mechanical HD, 3 case fans and a 7970. I can get a cheap 7850 and sell my 4870. Can this PSU run a 7970 & 7850 for mining purposes. I can still send back the PSU under DSR and replace with the 680W but it will cost me about £20, wish I had seen the 680W when ordering.
