So the lad (12) informed me he didn't want a laptop for Christmas, but a gaming PC. The budget is £500 and wont include the keyboard/mouse (I'll sneak him the cash for that), OS (I'll go for the 3 month Windows 8 trial), or monitor (he'll be using his LCD HDTV).
It'll be my first build, and we plan to do it together as a project.

Thanks in advance chaps.

Now the most stupid question; how do I put this into a basket? Just click each link and put it in the OCuk basket?

I'll probably go with the trial Win8, then he can save his sheckles to buy it in 90 days. Or should I say, I'll pay!

Check out Carey Holzman on youtube, goes into super high detail about building pc's. They are generally around an hour long and quite enjoyable.

I followed his guides are never had a drama.

Ok, the MSI is no longer listed and the motherboard is out of stock. What would be the best alternatives for around the same cash?

Cheers!

The 7850 was a black Friday deal. There's nothing comparable for the money, unfortunately. The 7790 is the best under £100. If you're cutting out Windows you could get a 270X instead for £155, and it includes BF4 which you could sell for £30ish (it's not suited to a 12 year old :))

The Asus EVO R2.0 board is on offer at the moment, an extra £20 but much better than the one listed.

The M5A97 or the M5A99X?

OK, so we have the list above but the motherboard is replaced with the M5A97 Evo R2.0. The bundle weighs in at £383 so I can stretch to £150 for the graphics card. (270X)

Are there any components that will hold any others back in the bundle?

HIS R9 270X for £155 is good.

Apart from that the build looks good, good choice of mobo, I have the same, faultess and the software that comes with it called AI Suite 2 is pretty nifty.

Right team, I'm off to my basket! Wish us luck!

One quickie, I guess everything I'll need to build the physical machine is supplied?

Yep, all screws etc are in the case box or supplied with the individual box.

All Sata cable will be in the mobo box (for your hdd)

Your all set by the looks of it, the next bit (building) is the best bit, take your time and enjoy.
