New job, new city

This is a bit of a silly one really.

I'm 24, I currently live in Oxford, and work at a small local business. Over the past few months, I've been juggling with moving to another city, and setting up less of a rural life for myself... Am probably too young to be settled right here.

So, I've had a couple interviews in London, where a lot of my good friends reside. Definite job potential. Now, I'm finding myself struggling with the stress of moving, leaving everything behind, and wondering how I'll cope with it all.

It's silly, but is there anything I should be doing/be aware of? It feels like it'll all happen at once (leaving current job/house, selling car, the moving process, the new job), and I want to ease my mind as much as possible in prep.

TL;DR - I'm a big girl's blouse.

I finish at my current place in two weeks, and start in a new job, new city, shortly after new year.

I have to: speak to the council, landlord, energy peoples. Find a new flat, speak to the council, estate agents, energy peoples, ISP, finalise my documents with the new employer. Move 100 miles, have christmas and new year in a third city, all on a shoestring as the new place obviously won't pay me before I go, and drag the GF along all the way.

Piece of cake :D

Scout out your local.

I moved into this house and it took me 30 seconds to find my local, granted you can see it from the back garden...

Moving - don't organise anything, shove it in boxes, worry about it later. Priorities when unpacking are get the stereo, pc, tv and games consoles set up, and the beer in the fridge.

don't fret it, just try and jump in with both feet, if you're not taking advantage of everything london has to offer its not worth making the move.

Oh and make sure you work out a reasonable budget so you don't end up wasting loads of money, getting around and lunches etc can be a huge cash sink

Just do it! I recently moved to a different place for the other half. We moved in on a Sunday and I started a new job on the Monday. Stress is good! Keeps you on your toes :)

Moving is stressful, my most recent move was the first time I've really moved away from my home town (other than nearby villages) in my 28 years alive. It was scary, but you get so caught up in 'things to do' and 'stuff to sort out' you kind of don't have time to worry.

Just make a list of things that need doing, have a rough plan, and get to it.

Just jump in, you'll be fine. New places are great things to experience, and I wish I'd made big moves when I was a bit younger.

Won't ever happen in the UK.

People in removals are there for 1 reason...they can't do anything else. All you need is a lorry and a few mates.

You have to remember, the UK doesn't reward manual labour anymore. All the money goes to desk jockeys and IT geeks now.
