The challenge is simple.

What is the best, maximum "bang per buck" car that you can buy today for ~ £1.5k?

Can be anything - old, new, home made - whatever takes your fancy, but it must be a real car that you can actually buy.

Take it away.....

Hothatch- 172
Big hatch - Mondeo
4WD Turbo - Scoobie
RWD - 325 e36
Convertible - MX5
4x4 - landrover discovery
Little hatchback - Fiesta
Medium Hatchback - Focus

What kind of car?, you can get a nice mk1 Mx5 for less than that, handles great - fast enough for the price.

Why not? Is it simply how much knackered old metal you can get for your money we are talking about? In which case, to play the game, my choice would be an old Jag. But in the real world, a 106 GTI would be much more entertaining on the back roads around here, than a knackered old Jag.

First you have to define what you mean by "Bang per Buck"

What are you wanting to use the car for?

I will try to explain, I have had V12 jags, Vans, R5's, Daf 44's (which was huge fun actually! anybody who knows what a Daf is please tell me :) ) and several others (Mostly jags) but including Range/Land rovers

Out of all this I have to say my current vehicle stands head and shoulders above all of them!

She is a 1994 Land-cruiser VX (4.2TD)

I have to say She is the best vehicle I will ever own!

She is....

A Luxury long distance cruiser. As comfortable as any high end saloon!

A truck, I have had a ton of bricks in the back! Nooo Problem! (And yes I DO mean a ton!)

A Minibus, (I did an old friend thing earlier in the year, I could carry 8 people in comfort! )

Not too bad on the economy! (Yeah, OK a 2.5ton vehicle is never going to be good, especially around town (18/22) but on long journeys where I can maintain a reasonably conservative and constant speed (I tend to stick to about 53) I can get high thirties as MPG!)

She is not high performance as such, But she can pick up her Skirts and run when required! :D

She is technically very simple, so very easy to maintain (That is important to me)

She is even a Fanny Magnet! (I have several lady's of my acquaintance who get the metaphorical "Wet Knickers" from being given a ride in her, ;) :D I never even got that from the V12! :( )

What more could anybody possibly want from a vehicle??

Really?

Offer about 1200 which is probably still more than this mighty fine example is worth.

Sell the seats, head unit, stupid wheels, stupid exhaust put OEM cloth etc back at about half the cost. Use savings to turn up ze boost ( or fix whatever's been fiddled), pop out the front dent on the bumper, buy new 30 quid clear corners....live happily ever after

A guy a know had an MR2 turbo, he turned up the boost and the thing was running 0-60 in 4.5 seconds, it was a real rocket and somehow didn't blow up.
