Whos PS4 has failed so far?

I've got 2 (one for Dad) and both didn't output to the TV out the box.

The TV was a 4 year old Tosh.

Resolved it myself by booting to safemode and performing a manual update to 1.51. I just left it as there was no progress bar (no output!) and after 5-10mins it rebooted and has worked ever since.

Couldn't imagine my Dad doing that :)

Oh dear, I have a 4 year old Toshiba 32RV635D and this hdmi handshake thing is the one thing that concerns me about getting a PS4. But...as long as it's easily rectified.

Mind you, buy the time I get one (6 months ish) hopefully these issues will be sorted)

Might pick up a ps4 to go with my xb1 but I'll wait until early next year to hopefully avoid these issues.

Well I can confirm it now works fine in the ports at rear of tv also. How odd.

Have you tired dvds / blu-ray ? Mine can take up to a minute to show a picture when switching to dvd / blu-ray and also when switching inputs on an old Toshiba, works absolutely fine on my monitor, PS3 is also fine.

Maybe it's the hdmi handshaking between the PS4 and TV? Does the PS4 work ok with the Tosh otherwise?

It does it when switching inputs (e.g PS4 (HDMI1) to PS3 (HDMI2) then back again) when just on the xmb as well, the sound and picture once it is showing is fine it's just irritating, especially when it starts up and its sat there on a white light for a good minute or so until the picture appears.

So if you play a DVD/Blu-Ray without switching inputs it's fine?

Sounds like something a firmware update might fix (for either the PS4 or the TV). What's your TV make and model?

No it does it then as well, you get the spinning wheel as the disc loads then a blank screen for up to a minute.

2007 model I think.

Mine is a Regza 32635D which is a 2009 model so I'm hoping it behaves! It's fine with my blu-ray player (sony) and my freesat box and 360.

Mine is failing. Works very intermittently. (Just cut off as I was typing this, weird sound came out of the console this time).

Started as a standby problem, as in it wouldn't come out of standby. Now, its difficult to get it to boot up (blue light just keeps pulsing). When it does, it seems to either run fine or artifacts appear and it just shuts off.

Replacement from Sony coming on Friday.

Sorry to hear mate, atleast you'll get another one soon. Starting to get paranoid about mine lol.

No can do, it's an old Toshiba, 37C3030D I think. It's had no issues at all other than with the PS4.

I get the same with the 32" version of the TV.

It just flashes between black/blue screens for 10 or so seconds then switches to the PS4 screen. I've had it on a few occasions not switch at all then need to turn the tv off and back on and it'll flash for a while then switch over.

I've got the latest firmware, tried multiple HDMI cables and both the sockets and it still does the same. It doesn't on the monitor or TV downstairs though.

On the plus side, I'm not going mad, thank you. On the negative side that probably means it will not work any better unless Sony do anything about it.

I too had the HDMI output problem out of the box. Wouldn't work on our livingroom TV, it said 'mode not supported' despite working with PS3/360/Sky HD/Media PC. Tried a bunch of different HDMI cables and every HDMI socket. Connected it to a bedroom TV and it worked fine, so updated to 1.51 and it worked on the livingroom TV too.
I wonder how many people will have this same problem and return their PS4s?!

Looks like both the PS4 and One were a massive rush at the end to get units shipped. Various missing features to be patched in later, odd little issues here and there...

Also had a couple of these:
