Help me decide which TV I want please!

Hi,

I've decided I want to get a TV but I really have no idea what to look at. I've read a bit about the difference between plasma, LCD, LED, OLED etc. From what I've read I think LED would suit me best but I'll let you be the judge. I think plasma uses too much electricity and may be too large so I'd like to avoid plasma if possible.

Requirements:
- Between 40-50" display
- Must be able to be wall mounted
- Must be 1080p (or above?)
- Good quality display and no noticeable motion blur or ghosting

Note: I am not interested in 3D or internet connectivity, I wouldn't mind them but don't want to pay extra if it's just for those.

Usage:
- Watching movies in 1080p from my PC
- Wii U gaming

Note: That's right, I won't actually be watching live TV on this TV, not sure if that changes anything.

Budget:
I don't really have one, but the cheaper the better (I'm hoping quite low between £300-£500 but willing to pay more if needed). I won't be buying the TV immediately, I will need to save up for it, I just want to decide which one to get or at least have a good idea.

Please bear in mind this will be the first TV I've ever bought so please excuse the ignorance!

Any suggestions? :)

Thanks

I have read this a couple of times, to be honest what I get out of your description is your not after a TV but a decent PC monitor.

But the size, I have not seen a 40" monitor.

It sounds like it needs a couple of HDMI plus the obvious DVI port for the PCZ gaming.

I have a 40" Samsung TV, it's oldish, it's not a smart TV so no internet and it's not 3D.
It's ok but only has VGA and not DVI.

By looks alone the new LG's are beautiful with a very very small border but these are smart and 3D. My bro has one and it looks amazing.

Thanks. Maybe I wasn't clear enough, I already have a monitor which is 27" and 1440p which I use for PC gaming (obviously) and watching movies.
The reason I want a TV is for a better movie experience and console gaming. Basically I want to be able to watch movies and play the console
without needing to sit at my desk. Also 27" is too small if more than 1 person is playing the console.

Ignore the part about "- Possibly occasional casual PC gaming" I removed it from the OP, I'm sure that's what confused things. :p

I have had a look at Currys and saw a Samsung UE40F5000.

It's a 40" LED. It does not mention being a smart TV it is not 3D but the price is £549.

It looks very nice. But does not mention PC input and does have 2 HDMI.

Will keep looking.

Samsung 39 F5000 : £399

Samsung 42 F5000 : £389

Yes, the 42 is cheaper :)

They look good, I've found these:

Sony KDL46R473
Samsung UE46F5000

Worth looking into?

I love my Panasonic, different model but this looks like a good buy.

Or for your uses you could really consider a plasma.

Thanks, about the plasma, my room gets a lot of sunlight, would it be an issue? I've read that plasma's tend to be glossy.
