So yeah, I just spilled some beer on my Retina 15" Pro

Turned it off, wiped it all away as fast as possible and left it above a radiator for a few hours. Seems to be working fine, but I can't help but think that there's been some irreparable damage done to it. It's only a few months old so I'm fairly gutted. What would you guys do? Claim on home insurance or just see how it does?

no point claiming on home insurance if it's working, wait until it stops working (if it stops working), then claim.

I'd be tempted to get GeekBench on loop, or keeping it in an airing cupboard for a bit.

If it was to stop working, house insurance :p

Well I'm about to fly on holiday and I have it with me, so unsure what the hotel I'm going to will have in terms of places to keep drying it out.

The balcony? As long as it isn't easy to see it or steal it. But not too much direct sun, as it would probably be too hot!

If not a hot place: Keep on charge, and geekbench it ;)

I'v done this on the same macbook but with orange juice. I just got everything off that i could, took off some keys and dabbed. works ffine now! although i have a slightly sticky z key but that could be sorted by taking it off and cleaning.

There are a few YouTube vids of how to take the key caps off and then clean the scissor mechanisms. I've done this on a couple of MBP/MBAs.

Yeah I will try and clean the keys up today. It seems to work fine now though, if it starts getting worse I'll give Direct Line a ring.

Well, I spilled a glass of wine on it last night. :( I'm such a clumsy idiot. After the beer incident the Mac has been fine, except last night I heard a distinct buzzing noise coming from it. Rang Direct Line and I have a claim number, have to wait for 'DVS' to get in touch.

When I saw the thread title, I knew you had either done it again, or it had given up.

I suppose though, if you get a replacement, it could be the new model :)

Note to self, do not buy any electronics from OP, ever.

:p

Ha, it was one of those moments where something just falls out of your hand. I'd certainly never try to hide anything otherwise I wouldn't create this thread. :D

I just hope I get the new model from Direct Line with the PCI-E SSD and the time machine restore is as painless as what it has been in the past.

Doubtful. They'll try their best to get an equal spec model but they'll also count depreciation in too.

@OP If you're not happy with what they're happy to give you, fight it.

I've been becoming more and more complacent with mine. Never had drinks in the same room as the pro. Then I started drinking, then eating....

Now after reading this thread, im going back to my old ways lol

Hope you get the new one though, it's awesome!

Oh I will, I'll take it to the Omnudsman if I have to. The lady on the phone said I'd more than likely get the new model if they can't get the one I have from Apple.

Maybe they can give vouchers though so he can pony up the difference, I've heard of insurance companies doing that
