Hi all,

I am looking for a new double mattress and we currently have a silent night spring mattress.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a replacement and what sort of price we should pay for one?

I've heard good things about http://www.factory-beds-direct.co.uk and was seriously thinking about getting one from them in the new year. The thought of buying a mattress without trying it out first is a bit weird, but I accept their point that a 30 second try out in a shop is pointless anyway.

I have this one. It's quite supportive. Would highly recommend.

I bought a silent night memory foam 7 zone something or other from Amazon. It's brilliant. Came all rolled up so was easy to get in/around the house as well.

I really like memory foam. We splurged out on a Tempur a few years ago, and we'll never go back to springs again. When you think of how long you'll keep a mattress, even an expensive one doesn't work out very much per year.

I've found a relatively firm memory-foam mattress and a contoured memory foam topper is a great combination. The topper might wear out after a few years, but are relatively cheap to replace while the mattress below will be fine.

Factory Beds Direct. We have two from them and they're excellent - you'll pay double for the same from a shop like Dreams etc.

Everyone says "try before you buy", as people in this thread already have, which makes sense on face value. But as they point out how does a max 2 minute lay down on a bed in a shop give you any indication at all of its comfort for 8 hours every night for 10+ years? On the other hand Factory Beds Direct do a 30-day no-questions money back guarantee which no shop will do, which is at least better than 2 minutes.

I say it's a good mix between the two, have a go round the shops to see what sort of thing you like, then go to factory beds direct and say what you liked the feel of and they should be able to help.

We're just in the process of trying to find a new one and it's taking us ages to decide!

Not a fan of pure memory foam ones, just don't like the feel of them, but my wife prefers a firmer than usual mattress yet not too firm.

So from what we tried in the shops I think the best sort for us will be a reasonably firm pocket sprung one that has a comfort layer on top, such as a layer of latex.

So got the choice of either their latex one or have been speaking with them as they are about to spin off a new part of the company that specialises in more 'hybrid' style mattresses that make use of memory foam and latex along with the pocket springs.
