Nelson Mandela has died

Don't agree with how he started out and im not in a position to judge if he made up for it.

He did what he could during a time where he would be ignored with normal means of protest. Right or wrong he was trying to stop apartheid which is a commendable idea even if his methods were bad.

Fought evil with evil. Dont really know what to make of his death otherwise.

That I will grant you is in his favour.

However apologies don't make up for past wrongs, especially when he didn't actually apologise. In fact his lack of an apology implies that he found his actions acceptable.

As others of sense have done I believe I should leave the thread, the sickly sweet scent of hypocrisy sticks in the throat.
Very much like Crap does as well. ;)

I don't know his full story, but that was the first thing that came to mind when I read your post. Sorry :(

No.. sadly I've seen posts of people who are being deadly serious....

That's gotta have been part of the intention of whoever made it... both that people would continue with the troll and others would accept it at face value and pass on sincerely...

How can he tell if they are scincere and not trolling. Writing is a very por medium for conveying content. No body language or tone. Whcih holds more comunication information than words.

To flip your veiled racism implications back on you, why is Bin Laden not a good man? Just because he is an Arab and lets face it, we all hate Arabs these days!

That's some very thin reasoning there. Only a fool would tar a big section of the worlds population with the (so called) actions of one man.

I have no opinion on Bin Laden as the media and various goverments have done an excellent job into making him a near-mythical boogeyman.

And I think no more or less of Arabs than the average guy in the street. They don't concern me anywhere near as much as the action's of this goverment's overseas and here at home.

The pursuit of freedom has come at the cost of life throughout history and it is something our nation is no stranger to. I think history shows Mandela acted with good intentions. People should not be so quick to throw around the terrorist tag but we should also not gloss over the means with which the ultimately good end was achieved.

As a South African who is fully aware of his history, I still think he was a great man, who did more than enough good to atone for the bad things he did in his youth, even if it wasn't a direct apology as some people seem to be baying for.

I was there, Apartheid was ****ed up, he did what he had to do and many people paid the price, but what he accomplished after all of that (keep in mind he was imprisoned for 28 years) was groundbreaking for the country.

Better a man to have done terrible things, but also great ones, than a man who did nothing at all.

RIP Madibadela.

Al-Sharpton just said that Mandela was glad he was arrested when he was because the ANC at that point were planning to bomb a school and his arrest prevented that attacks. Apparently Mandela was relieved because he didn't want to kill innocent people. According to Sharpton that anecdote is one of the reasons Mandela was such a great principled man.

He can't for sure... though if a mate with a certain sense of humour was posting it then it can be a reasonable assumption...

Either way it made me chuckle a bit - poking a bit of fun at the nonsesnse that seems to get posted whenever someone famous dies.

Did he build the bombs himself ?

Did he plant the bombs himself ?

Did he directly order the mass murder of civilians?

Or was it all just part and parcel of the organization and times. Basically he couldn't really control everything that went on ?
