i5 2500k still worth a punt?

depends how good clocker 3570k will be.

I had 3570k for 2 weeks and went back to sandy due to 4.4 Maximum oc on water. Does not come close to 2500@5ghz.

2500K's come up frequently on the MM for circa £100. (occasionally as low as £90 even)

They are worth more than that if you compare performance to a 3570K/4670K and then look at the pricing.

So yes, they are worth a punt.

And look for i5-2550K (it's 2500K without, or with disabled GPU part and clocked one tick higher = 3.4 GHz) on auction site, I found an occasion about half a year ago and bought it brand new OEMed for 110 pounds.

I got a 2550k a couple of weeks ago and its a massive improvement on my fx6200 and easily keeps up with my mates 3570k.

They seem to be getting scarce now and going up in price so would a 3570k be a better option?

Get the 2500K if you find it cheap and keep an eye if you see any cheap 2600K also.
Almost 3 years later, they are still superb chips and holding very well.

I do regret back in 2011 didn't bought one and went to the T1090. (from Q6600).

have a look there the comparison between 2500K vs 4670K vs 3570K

Still an ok chip for single gpu gaming. 3570k wont clock as high but generally it's about 2-300mhz faster than a sandy chip, 4.5ghz on ib is about 4.7/8 ono on sb.

IMO , if the prices are decent and not costing you anything silly , its a cracking little chip that still competes.

I'd agree with that for single gpu's and games that don't take advantage of multi-threading.
Having tried a 7990 on a 2500K and a 2600K, consistent min/avg fps and especially gpu usage shot up when using the 2600K with Crysis 3 at Very High/4xMSAA for example.

BF4 too to a slightly lesser degree, though still very worthwhile.

Haven't tested the difference with a single gpu though.

I have a 2500k still running my 290, although im switching to a 4770k in a week or two and going to go X-Fire after xmas. This i5 has been amazing, its handled everything ive thrown at it, never pushed it past 4.4 though but im sure it would go higher easily.

Been really impressed with this chip.
