Hi all,

For FPS gaming am I going to get better quality pictures from say the IZO foris or the Benq 27" 120hz monitor than any 2560x1440 60 hz monitor?

Im trying to work out the pros and cons?

At the moment I have the Asus PB278Q 27-inch

Cheers

Most 1440p screens are ips so no the quality on the 120hz screen will be lower however the fluidity of them will be much greater

in car terms its like asking do you want a big comfortable cruiser or a stripped out sports car?

Only you can decide what suits your purpose the best for fps though id go for 120hz+

I've had a Hazro 27" IPS, Benq 2411XT TN Film 144hz and now the Eizo 120hz PVA. The 27" was ok but too blurry in games and had grey blacks, the Benq performed really well for FPS but had horrible colours, the Eizo has great colours, amazing blacks and doesn't blur in games.

The Eizo is the best gaming monitor you can buy at the moment in my opinion. If you are happy with a 23.5" screen then it has everything. Amazing contrast ratio, great colours, grood viewing angles, 120hz & motion reduction backlight strobing. It is pricey though and its only 23.5" so it really depends.

I've got a 27" 1440p IPS and while the colours are great, it doesnt have that contrast ratio to really make them pop. I've been considering switching to the eizo but I'm not sure i can live with the smaller screen any more.

That's VA, for you.

Many people beleive that IPS is actually high quality. On budget screens this is not the case. In my experience IPS is like TN, but with better viewing angles.

Once you've seen a good VA or plasma in action, you will realise just how bad IPS is. The deep blacks affect the full colour range and because IPS has terrible blacks, IPS screen display washed out colours.

For gaming, personally, I'd go TN 120hz + ... its more fluid.
If I value lush graphics/colours more, I'd go VA.
I'd get an IPS monitor for gaming if I was given it for free.

The Eizo in question is a 120hz VA panel though. Its a no brainer if you're ok with 23.5" and can afford it. Its obviously much more expensive then the competing TNs

I liked the BenQ a lot, for gaming online it was a great screen, especially with the light boost hack, it's cheap as well. The Eizo is twice the price but it's the only 120hz VA panel available and it's from a premium brand, really depends what you can/can't live with.

The only reason i'd sell the Eizo is to get another in 27" or with a Gsync module, luckily for my wallet, neither exist.

I always heard IPS panel screens offered much better detail and clarity over a TN panel still ?

Still good to hear VA panels are doing good shame the eizo ain't 27"

The detail and clarity is defined by the screen size, resolution and surface treatment. To some extent contrast. The 'detail and clarity' is much the same on TN and IPS, but the colour reproduction and viewing angle characteristics are quite different. The look that the high contrast coupled with a 'semi glossy' screen surface gives to monitors like the EIZO is quite different and in some ways more striking than IPS. Particularly when you have dark and light shades combining the results can be quite spectacular. You also get extra shadow and highlight detail as a result and various aspects of the image have a more defined structure. I'd take a look at my recent review of the BenQ EW2740L (site in signature) for a better idea of what sort of image quality to expect from a capable VA panel. The 'AUO AMVA+' of the BenQ is a bit different to the EIZO's Sharp panel but the general characteristics are comparable.

I went from a dell 24" 1920x1200 60hz IPS to the Eizo and the Eizo is better quality all round, the picture is sharper, the colours better and the 240hz is amazing.

Best money i spent in a long time.
