Do you think the Queen will ever write her memoirs?

I think her views on the event during her life will be recorded, however how the information gets to the public is debatable. take the diaries of most of the past monarchs, you cant exactly walk into your local waterstones and pick up a copy of the diary of for example henry VIII. his accounts of events are most likely available to scholars who then interpret them for the general public. i think something similar will happen with the queen's memoirs

would be hilarious if she did - and it turned out she was a massive racist/druggie/****

I heard that in her free time she's actually MC Lizzie.

One is simply not amused, do you know who I am?

Don't particularly care if I'm honest :/

I find this kind of response odd (though I realise you're a frog and so hate our royal family :p) coming from you of all people in GD.

Whether or not you like the person or what she represents, she must have led an incredibly interesting life, met some of history's most important, famous, notorious and interesting people, and lived through some of the most defining periods of time of our history. How could that not be worth reading (assuming decent penmanship!)?

Well my point was, that let history speak for itself and let it be catalogued - a biography of a head of state who wasn't voted in to me just seems a little contrived and pointless or perhaps a little self serving. None of the previous monarchs did it, and historians catalogued their exploits independently.

I find what she has been through in terms of the world changing around her interesting, but as the power of the monarchy is more and more eroded they (to me) seem to do very little other than represent the country - it's not a bad thing, and they do it well - but because I don't follow the royal family and care little about them, to me it just does not interest me. I'm probably wrong, but I don't feel the queen has shaped or form where the UK is now.

It is current - not historic. Give it a hundred years and I'm sure the history of ER2 will be much more interesting to those reading about it.

What powers, or what say does the queen actually have these days?

You dont need to hold any paper "powers" to be highly influential... She might be powerless but there is a chance that her opinion or decision is regarded higher than of Cameron for example... Simply because she has been around for so long and clearly has some serious connections...

If they were truly ambivalent, one wonders why they feel the need to make a post? I'm ambivalent about a lot of threads in the forum, and you'll struggle to find a single post on mine in them.

Being ambivalent about something doesn't preclude one's right to state their ambivalence on a subject.
