Whos PS4 has failed so far?

I bought a cheap hdmi switch in the hope that, as per several threads I have read with regard to a/v receivers having issues with tvs that putting it between the PS4 and the TV would allow the PS4 to handshake with it and the switch with the TV....

It works ! I had a false alarm as the extra hdmi cable I bought to accomplish this appears to be faulty but now the picture appears immediately on switching inputs, now to try dvd / blu-ray...

Good work fella!

I shall remember that if I have problems when I get mine :)

Turnaround was good on mine even though in Jersey. 4 days. No compensation though? I was aware ms are giving a free game with dead consoles.

Ive got a question for everyone that has had there PS4's replaced by sony... If you gotten exstended warnnity or even ur standard one year warnnity's, then the replacement code on ur PS4 wont match that on your Proof of purshe.. Im not even sure if the Ps'4s have codes on them. But i know my 360 does.. So whats gunna be the story with that???

I would let who ever your extended warranty is with know that you have had it replaced with Sony. Tell them it was DOA.

But why did you buy an extended warranty in the first place ? You are paying for rights you already have...

I tried putting this information on the EU Playstation support forum but no one seems to be interested in reading, just complaining, there have been several posts of people with what looks like similar issues since.

So that cheap hdmi splitter you purchased has got rid of the handshake issues? Might have to look into getting one myself.

Thought mine had developed a problem. But after five minutes of frustration I realised I was trying to use the PS3 controller. I think the days when I could be trusted to debug hardware issues reliably are over. :-)

As its pretty much the same TV I assume it will work for you, other TVs results and using other switches will vary in effectiveness I expect.

Any chance trusting me a link of the switch you got? Cheers, good to know something could sort it out.

This console is really starting to annoy me.
Replacement arrived earlier in the week, tried it out played a little resogun. Thought i'd play killzone this weekend so I can spend a few hours on it rather than 30 mins after work.
BUT NO! Put the disc in, install the game, update and then get an error. Realise that the disc isn't being recognized. Manually eject the disc using the eject screw and now it wont take a disc into the system. Time to phone sony again for another replacement

Swap out again on tuesday.. another weekend of gaming gone =(

Looks like mine has failed, the system works fine if I remote in on the Vita, but it's stopped displaying on my TV. Tried it on 2 other TVs (with different cables) and the problem persists, despite trying the safe mode stuff etc. Looks like I'll be ringing Sony, anyone know if the helpline is open on Sats?
Worked fine for a week, now this. Not cool.

That is bad, sorry mate.

We are still none the wiser about how long we can expect these things to last, let a lone what normal behavior is.

I had a weird stutter slowdown on FIFA the other day. Not sure if game, or share button or system.

Suppose after 1 Commodore C64.. never died, Sinclair Spectrum ... never died, Amiga 500 and 1200....perfect, Sega Megadrive.... fine, SNES.... fine.. Phillips CDi .. fine.............PC.... ball ache.......... PS1, awesome, PS2... awesome ... Xbox ...awesome ....

To then be greeted with 360 RROD... twice and another that DVD drive died, and a PS3 that's Blu Ray drive died.... (replacement fine for years mind)

...you cant help but get nervous about these new boxes. I have little faith in them.

My Mum saved hard to buy us (four kids) a collective Christmas present back in 81-ish. There wasn't much else under the tree because the Speccy was very expensive for her.

But ours was DOA. Poor old Mum was more gutted than we were!

Anyway, just thought I'd mention it. No generation's perfect. It was weeks before we got a replacement as well. Customer service ain't what it used to be... thankfully. :-)

because it covers it for a extra 2 years.

You are covered under the sale of goods act for up to five years. All you are paying for with any type of warranty is for rights you already have.

They are a con. They get around being a con and unsellable by usually offering things like accidental damage cover.

They are more complex pieces of kit now too, expected to do far too much.

While I agree extended warranties are usually just rip offs, you don't have a 5/6 year warranty for an item under sale of goods you have the 5/6 year period from the time you realised their was a fault to do something about it, and the longer it is the less likely it is you will get a refund or exchange you will have to fight for it the law doesn't just entitle you to a refund/exchange within 5/6 years you may have to accept a partial refund or credit.

People buy extended warranties to hopefully make it easy to get refunded replaced without courts or lots of hassle with no guaranteed outcome.
