I sold some of my Litecoins and as it happens, I have enough to buy a R9 290 without having to use up my funds.

Which 290 should I go for? I don't care much about flashing/overvolting capability, I guess I should just go for the cheapest 290 I can find since all reference cards are basically the same?

Get the cheapest as they're all using the same reference design at the moment. Some might be clocked slightly higher, but it doesn't make much of a difference with the stock cooler as it'll just keep throttling anyway.

I think you answered the question yourself, sometimes it come down to which packaging you like best and who offers the best support for you

Throttling isn't going to be a problem, I'm just gonna up the fan speed anyways, noise isn't a problem for me. :>

Yeah, thought so, I'll probably spend a bit more and get the Sapphire one from here, couple of places that are selling them cheaper are the same places I don't want to deal with again because of the awful experiences I've had with them.

go for the one with the best warrenty.. gigabyte i think as they have a 3 year warrenty with uk rma base and very quick turn around. check here http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18231329

id also consider waiting for third party cooler cards as they will run a lot cooler and likely last longer as a result!
Well, I need it as soon as possible, so waiting isn't an option, and I don't want a 3rd party cooler anyways.

hi, sorry to highjack ur thread but im in the same boat, but im going for full cover waterblock, im not going to overclock it but what size rad do you guys reccomend? and while im waiting will i be able to use a fan curve with afterburner? is that what you mean Idartalis?
thx

just raise the fan speed to 47% or higher (up from 40%) and it wont/shouldnt throttle, if you overclock it apparently 55% will do

No idea about the waterblock, I don't watercool and probably won't anytime soon.

As for the fan, yes, you can create a custom curve profile in MSi Afterburner, I always do that anyways.

Sapphire and MSI are both fine with coolers being removed provided the card is bought through OcUK (seems to be a special arrangement). The rule is you can remove the cooler as long as you don't damage anything doing it, and can replace the original cooler if you need to RMA it.

Don't know if any other manufacturers are OK with it or not, only seen these two mentioned on the forums.

I believe it is just MSI and Sapphire.
