Hey all,

Our oven is slowly detoriating, firstly the ignition doesn't work on the hob or oven/grill, there is a now a problem with the door it is broken and could easily smash.

The biggest problem for years has been the temperature if the oven
It always drops significantly!

Sp rang a few places up,for repairs, none wants to touch it
Because it is a gas oven

Time to buy a new one! Any tips about one to buy?

Would have thought that any oven that meets modern safety accreditation would suffice.

You probably have to go out of your way to buy one that doesn't meet those regulations these days... I'd hope!

Tips for buying? Buy from a reputable outlet.

Well parts is one thing it is some old make but I believe i found parts

If the temperature is dropping
It could be the thermostat if so that is about £230 to replace then there is the door hinges and ignition
Not worth it imo

None wants to repair gas ovens!

Am in the same boat, with the gas oven being toast. Got a temporary electric microwave / oven as backup currently, but eyeing up gas cookers for Jan sales, but then came across this thread.

Why electric oven? Do they have eletric grills? Lol
Yer def gas hob
I wondering the same - is it just for ease of firing up the oven. Would have thought gas grills toast better...

What are the good makes? Bosch?
Was looking at hotpoint/indesit, but curious to know too.

Get an electric oven, gas ovens should be consigned to oblivion.

And gas hobs are so 90's, nightmare to clean, they are a potential fire and burn hazard, and there is never a smooth transition from low to high settings in my experience, or even a low enough setting that will just simmer without burning your food, electric induction hobs are where it is at.

If you can afford it go for a Miele oven. They have just brought out a lot of new models so you will find lots of Ex-Display ovens on ebay.

I have a brand new unused Miele you can have for £500 (cost £1.2k i think) if you can pick up in london or Sheffield.

Miele don't have one of those convetional gas cooker and ovens
They are also very expensive, seem to be a fovurite on here

Apart from currys (which look expensive) where online shall I look?
