The "maximum bang per buck" £1.5k challenge

Hmmm. Definition of bang is up for debate, but surely power, spec, price when new, etc are near the top of the list when you say bang for buck? I mean if you want to be sensible you say what's the most practical car I can get for 1500 quid, or something.

So with that in mind the answer is surely this...

325 bhp v12, every square inch covered in leather, electric heated front and rear seats, double glazing... look you even get money left to fix it. Surely I have won the thread?

:)

The runing costs on that are absolutely ludicrous. nice find tho :)

...Daf 44's (which was huge fun actually! anybody who knows what a Daf is please tell me :)

My dad had one of those. Rubber band power FTW

My vote goes for my old rev3 MR2 turbo which I sold for £1500. Never went wrong, still tearing about, proper missile off the line.

That or an XJR.

Over 100k miles which I put on my S-Class, I averaged around 26-27mpg.

At £1.3/L it would therefore go ~7000miles on £1500 of 95UL. :)

Thats because you did almost exclusively long trips, 26-27 is also the long term average of my 530i which as you know is a more economical car - but the usage profie was different.

This is not the thread for talk of fuel economy :).

I'm more interested to know if it's possible to beat the 750's 325 bhp for the 1500 quid?

I raise you this 2001 Mercedes-Benz S500, up for £1595. (easily get £95 off due to its noisy back axle!)

I'm sure Fox will faint when he sees I've not opted for some 750i or other! :o:D - although I spotted Liampopes example and pondered it for a while.....

Don't give me ideas, be an awesome upgrade to the Jaaaaag!

But not doing it, Jaaaaag is a reliable workhorse, changing it for something else like that could just result in epic bills, though doubtful with an old Merc admittedly.
