Hi,

I'm planning on building a new budget gaming system and I'd like some advice on some of the components I'm thinking of using. Here's what I've got so far:

CPU: AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 8350 Black Edition 4.00GHz
Graphics Card: HIS Radeon R7 260X iPower IceQ X2 Turbo 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
Motherboard: ASRock 990FX Extreme3 AMD 990FX (Socket AM3+) DDR3 ATX Motherboard
Memory: Patriot Viper "Sapphire Blue" 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-14900C9 1866MHz Dual Channel Kit

I plan to use a 500W dual rail PSU and an SSD as well. I don't currently play many modern games but I'd like the system to be future proofed, i.e. would be perfectly capable of handling things like WoW, LoL, BF4 etc.

The things I'd like opinions on are:
1. Will there be any bottlenecks with the above spec, e.g. between CPU and graphics card or ram.
2. The RAM listed above is XMP compliant, although I'm using an AMD board with an AMD processor - is this likely to cause any problems?
3. Is the mobo I've chosen going to be up to the job of supporting the 8 core AMD processor, and allow me room for future overclocking?
4. Any other problems I might encounter with the above setup!

I'm not a hardware expert and haven't build a system in a few years so any help is greatly appreciated :)

Thanks!

if your not bothered about xfire then this mobo would be fine

the memory you have listed is fine as you can run it at 1866mhz by changing the xmp in the bios, 8gb also fine for gaming
the gfx i would atleast get a 280x if you cant afford a 290
and as for cpu, you could save 30 quid and put it towards gfx by getting the 8320 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-337-AM&groupid=701&catid=1967&subcat=1825 which you will be able to oc to 4.0 if you wish with that board i have listed
you will also need a cpu cooler as the standard amd one is rubbish and the piledrivers get quite hot especially if oc'ing,
if you want a big cooler and you dont think it will fit withthe patriot memory then get some low profile, http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-043-TG&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1517 lower speed but not much in it

Hello and welcome to the forum :)

Do you have a budget in mind for the main system components?

Also do you know the make and model of the PSU?

I won't be using dual gfx cards to start with but thought I'd keep the options open for future upgradeability, and I dont mind paying a little extra for the original board to allow for this.

The 280 and 290 cards are well out of my budget i'm afraid! I picked the 260x as its a 2GB card with GDDR5 ram without the huge price tag.

I've seen a lot of people saying get the 8320 and OC it to 4ghz, but my thinking with the 8350 is that I wouldnt need to touch it for now, and later when I feel the need for a boost I could buy a decent cooler and OC that to 4.5ghz+ and it'd keep me going for a while, whereas with an OC'd 8320 I'd have already used up most of that OCing ability straight away if that makes sense?

The Patriot memory does look a little chunky but it's 1866 as opposed to 1600 hence why i chose it, but would this make much difference and is the bigger size likely to cause me headaches? =/

Really I'd like to spend no more than £550 for the system all in (excluding OS), I haven't really got a price per component as such but it's something like:

case: £30
PSU: £40 ish
SSD: £65
RAM: £60-65

which leaves me with £350 for CPU, mobo and gfx card.

Thanks for your replies, appreciate it :)
