Got a parking ticket from a private company....?

Been done twice. Both occasions led to many letters over a number of months after which I never heard of them again. I never replied to anything, as they know they have someone at the end of their letters on the hook.

Fact is that even with CCTV they only know your car was on their car park. They don't know who was driving, only that person X is the registered keeper. As they can't prove that the registered keeper was driving, and therefore the person who agreed to the contract they just try it on with threatening letters.

ive just got my self one from ukcpus for £100, it was 3.45 on a sunday at B&Q and I was rushing and ended up parking in a blue badge bay , despite what people think, this was 15 minutes before it was shutting and there was hundreds more for them! I have no intention of paying but no doubt ill get loads of letters from them.

Really? I thought everybody knew that parking in a disabled bay without disability is just not socially acceptable in the slightest.

I dont do it myself, but I dont get the outrage with disabled bays.

If there are plenty about (which there always are) and they are not in use (I've never been anywhere where there ISNT empty disabled bays) using one for a few minutes at zero detriment or inconvenience to anyone isnt a problem in my eyes.

At the Know How distribution centre in Newark they have the most insane disabled parking, there are over 50 disabled spaces, which are never used on any shift.

They have staff that have to park on the access road to the site, because these 50 spaces have to spare for all the disabled people they dont employ.

Some bad advice from you lot :)

If it's a bigger company they will hassle you and it can make it to court.

You may as well get over to pepipoo to see if you can find fault in their procedures etc and quickly null and void the ticket. Or offer them a tenner to go away and see what they say. They're likely to accept a low amount before you get court letters etc.

Our court letter said they wanted 165. Offered 'em 20 quid, they refused, now they've written and will accept 70 to avoid going to court. Not paying 70 quid.

I will pay them 40 quid, split it £20 quid each from me and the missus and if they don't want to accept it then we'll see if they turn up on court day.

I thought you could reply that you don't know who was driving the vehicle at the time?

That rule got abolished earlier in the year, it now falls on the registered keeper regardless who was driving.

They can only take you to court for loss of earnings, and they have to prove they lost earnings in the first place (i.e every spot was taken at least one point in time during your stay). I've yet to hear of anyone being successfully prosecuted in a court for more than the loss of earnings.

If you're considering paying up, or feel threatened by court letters, more the fool you. Let it ride, you'll quickly learn it all gets thrown out
