Doesn't seem to be any catches recommending this for a user who last month paid £10.50 to Vodafone to use about 10 minutes 5 texts and 12 meg of data?

As far as I can see the credit has no expiry either which is nice, ooohh payg, it's the 90's again!

Might have to get my dad on it too, oh no, he's still using a Nokia 3210... :)

£0 per month? Whats the catch, just a £20 per year fee? What network does it run on?

ahhh stealthy adverts, she's annoyed about the slow speed with Vodafone though, so being on the same network isn't great, although that's cos she's 50+, comparing her S2 to my S3 with custom ROM etc, and the fact I can 'use' google and she can't... ... I digress...

how intrusive are the adverts? she down't browse the web that much, google maps mostly perhaps and quick googling of prices whilst out and about etc.

A few adverts when browsing the web is the only catch. And I already said, they use Vodafone :p. My younger brother's been on it for a year and only thing he's paid for was the delivery cost of the SIM, which was given back as extra credit.

EDIT: Just saw your edit, what speeds does she currently get? Is it the phone that's slow or the actual mobile connection? If so it might be best to get some PAYG SIMs with enough credit for a speed test to see what's the best in her area.

No fee one of sim card purchase of which £15 credit gets added.

If you browse the net through a web browser you'll get 5 second adds now and again. Any other app that uses data isn't affected and no adds.

I use them on my spare phone and its been great.

My Mrs use Ovivo. Very good. She doesn't use the data allowance wifi only so she never gets any annoying ad.
And she is a very low user. House phone is good enough for her.

This usage would be 40p for the first month on 3 PAYG (52p in subsequent months when the 150mb free data has expired). We're talking just over £6 a year.

I'd happily pay that to not have to see any adverts.

Just a tip for 3 PAYG. Start by ordering a free sim, then top it up with £10 using a credit card on My3. Once the credit card is registered, you can top up a fiver at a time and get 150mb free to use in 30 days each time.

Edit: I think 3 SIMS only work in 3G+ mobiles. Your dad might need to update that 3210.

Awesome post, and yes I believe a 3210 is way way to old for a 3G sim to work in it :0

Great news that three should be so cheap annually. I'm pretty sure but to clarify, the My3 thing you mean through the three website (make an account style and attract a small bonus?)

Yes it's online but you can also access my3 via a smartphone app (very low data use ).

The 150 mb thing comes with any top up. It's only possible to top up the minimum £5 having registered on my3 (thereby maximising free data). Everywhere else is a minimum £10 top up.

You realise there's a credit check on transfer right? It's £15 SIM-O, it has the lowest of all credit checks, why would you need to spot it for her? :( If she can pass it she can get the contract herself.

Please, don't do this. pretty please.

No, the other option is her paying her own bill like everyone else in the UK.

If she gets turned down for a contract she truly can not manage money in any shape or form (although the £1100 annual on PAYG gives us an indication already). So lazy she cant goto a networks website and order a SIM that takes 5 minutes? Or she can't float £15 for the first month?

There's a huge risk to your own credit here, if you accept the risk then go for it but I encourage anyone else who reads this to never follow this example, don't let people mooch your own credit score if they can not keep their own.
