Hey guys, I'm thinking about changing over to a z87 system in the next few months and although initially I wanted to wc I realise that I don't really need this and it would be a waste of money for me.

I will be getting a 4670K most likely and either an asus or gigabyte board.

What I am here to ask therefore is which air cpu cooler would you say is the best?
Which fans are best?

i will be gaming on it primarily so do you think a 4670k and a board at about £180 is the right choice, or should I get a 4770k or an e chip? Thanks in advance!

4770K if you can stretch to it and thermalright silver arrow seems to be current favorite for air coolers. Noctua heatsinks are popular also.

have to give my support for the be quiet. Keeps my cpu at around 30 at 50% fan speed in desktop. Never seen it go over 60 degrees celcius while gaming either.

All the lasted coolers are ment to be very good and should take your cpu to its maximum overclock with ease.
Their is not much difference between a i7 and a i5 currently for gaming but the i7 Seems much more future pro of than a i5

I have a prolimatech megahalems black with 2 120 akasa apache pwm fans on my 4770k.
Its very quiet and cools very well. Temps are 25 idle / 45 load /65-70 with 4.3 oc.

Looking at the reviews, the Phantek seems to be about the best bet for your money, however the OCUK product listing for the Phantek doesnt list 1150 as a supported mobo? :( anyone able to confirm if you can use this on a z87 mobo ?

Man, these big ass coolers look a pain to fit.

If there's one job I dread more than any other when building a rig, it's fitting the cooler, over the years, they've given me more grief than anything else.

Depends on the cooler. I found a K2 to be a very simple task.
Fit bracket, place cooler on top and screw it down. Done.

The fan clips on the other hand... Fiddly little *******s!
