Why is everyone driving so SLOWLY?

Dorset the best?? No, just no. I'm doing 120 miles a day at the moment, mostly through Dorset and the standard of driving is atrocious. The last couple of weeks have seen a rise in what is new phenomenon to me, people that do 30 down the NSL roads then ACCELERATE to 40 when they reach a 30. I thought the 40 everywhere crew were bad.

Oh dear that's really bad news, I was in Dorset a few weeks ago and was amazed at the number of people doing 60 on single A roads!

In Kent we have the 30-40ers who think they are saving petrol, the 40ers who do 40 everywhere, the 50ers who do 50 on dual carriageways and the non overtakes who think it's dangerous to overtake at any time! (you know the ones, you overtake them safely and quickly because they are going slow and then they flash you!!).

I think we should get some of these people in a GTA 6 simulator!

Andi.

The country roads in west kent seem to be ok for me, not too much traffic on the roads although almost every car goes slower than me even though I'm only doing 50-60 and it is safe to do so. 79hp is plenty to get me past all these people stuck at 40 though so it isn't normally problem, though it is annoying when you have to overtake 2 cars and a tractor in one go as they seem happy doing 25.

Was stuck behind another plonker today.

Followed them all the way from work where they did a solid 35 through the 20 limit on the business park, even over the speed bumps. Once onto the main road with a 40 limit they eventually reached 35 and then proceeded to brake for every slight bend in the road. When a Q7 pulled out of a side road 400m up the road they stamped on the brakes right down to 20!

I eventually got so frustrated that I overtook when it was clear to do so.

If cars are driving too slowly go round I dont see any issue in this thread.....overtake when safe...just beacuse you are in a rush thats got fog all to do with anyone else.....do less rushing around or less bitchin ...:lol

To an extent yes, doesn't take too long normally to be able to overtake. But when you are half way round a corner doing 20 you don't give the person coming up behind you doing 60 much chance to stop.

I know it is they're fault for going around a corner without being able to stop in the distance which they see to be clear, but there does come a point where you are going so much slower than what people expect for the road that it becomes dangerous.

On my old route to work I had to go 1 mile through a village with truly savage speed bumps. As I value my suspension and my spine, I went over them at <20, and accelerated up to ~25 between. Road was a 30 limit. Almost without fail, I'd have someone practically sat in my boot the whole way. Got overtaken once or twice by people happy to bounce down the road practically ground out on half the bumps.

Easier said than done on twisty fairly busy roads, you're either from blind bend to blind bend where you'd have to be suicidal to overtake or you get to a nice straight bit and there is traffic coming the other way :(

Yep it's always the way..bugger all oncoming traffic on the bends, but truck loads when a perfect overtaking straight appears.

getting hacked off with people either taking an age to get to the speed limit or just not getting there at all...and to top it off braking (if you can call it that) 200m before where they will stop and just crawling along to stop leaving a massive gap from the car in front

It's in the highway code if you have a faster vehicle behind you, that you should slow down and allow the vehicle to overtake when safe to do so.

Maybe they are doing that?

lol, you should invite us all to the perfect world you live in :P , i doubt very much that the reason

Actually, that's not entirely correct.

It says if someone is overtaking, slow down or maintain speed (just don't speed up).

It also says if you're holding up traffic, pull in at a safe place and let them past.

It doesn't say 'just go really slowly somewhere randomly' :p

Regardless of the above, that's not what people are doing. As Haze says, i'd love to come and drive on the utopian roads you seem to travel on :p

If that was the case I would have over taken them. However its nearly always in a place where this cannot be done, so I doubt they are doing as you say

Got held up doing 30 in a 40 again this morning. A van in front of me being held up by someone else.

When the van took a left turn, I saw what the hold up was. A woman driving a Ford Puma, crawling along with all the wipers going full tilt, and her windscreen completely fogged up. Had been stuck behind her for over a mile like this, and I ended up having to join the motorway at 40MPH behind her....with her windscreen still completely opaque

How on Earth can people be so stupid as to drive all the way through a town, at the start of rush hour/the school run when they basically cant see anything?

Worst ones a A/B roads when it's slightly dark or drizzling. There's a road between two local towns I use occasionally which, except for the restricted sections ,can easily and safely be navigated at between 50 and 60 mph for it's entire length. But there is ALWAYS at least one twonk doing 40mph holding everyone up, and then when you perform a perfectly normal overtake you more than likely get them flashing their lights are you, knobbles.

I cycle past loads of cars going down the a road from my house. There is always a que traveling slowly but with no obstructions at the front, its just that one person breaks a tiny bit then the person behind brakes a bit more. It ends up with a massive line of people breaking for no reason.

They always flash  or I think even worse, they leave their full beams on to spite you.

Also it's much safer driving at night, you can see any on coming cars' headlights before you even see the metal.

I think part of the problem is that you do need more focus to drive as fast at night than in the day and I think a lot of drivers either can't or don't want to put in that extra effort.

I think these people that drive at 35-40 on a road that you can easily go 60 on (i can go 80 if I feel like being racy) actually make the roads considerably more dangerous, I think I've probably committed to a few overtakes that I would have loosed a bit of poo had I been a passenger. As a result I probably don't always overtake in places that I could.

Also the constant brakers are the worst. Slight corner coming up, foot on brake. Car approaching, foot on brake.

These are the people that reverse into lamposts once a week, I'm the sort of person that writes my car off into a nursery and kills 10 babies once in a blue moon. One is definitely a PR killer.

Being a Puma owner, this annoys me greatly

Usually I'm on the other end of the stick, stuck behind much slower, over-cautious drivers.

It's also why I got one with the lux pack, heated front windscreen :D
