Derek Acorah - Didn't see this coming!

This stupid wench at work a few years ago went to see a palm reader. Came into work saying this woman was amazing and she was going to meet the man of her dreams in a few weeks.

She did meet somebody on a night out, married him within a few months, had a kid within a year. Separated just after having the kid, now divorced all within a few years.

Rather than think, she assumed the palm reader was right and could read the future. The idiot deserved it but these con artists should be ashamed of themselves!

Maybe she just has very mundane dreams :o

One day people in this country will be educated enough to have the good common sense to put these charlatans out of a job!

*rant over*

Add Derren Brown and Dynamo to that list. I am always gobsmacked that people believe their tricks are real. Was watching Dynamo yesterday at my Dads and they were all shocked when he froze a water fountain, when to me it just looked like the worst effects I had ever seen.

I tried to explain that even kids on Youtube can now do special effects that look better than that frozen fountain. Plus all the extras that stand around pretending to be shocked could do with a few more acting classes .

Huh? They do not, for one second, pretend anything supernatural/magical is involved in their act? Derren Brown especially so!

He supposedly froze a water fountain with a load of people stood around watching...

It was obviously a badly done camera trick, but he was trying to make it look like it was 'magic' and that is exactly what the people I was watching it with were believing. IMO people who believe in magic are just as bad as the ones who believe in palm readers etc.

Are you sure about that? It's a shame if that's the case :(

But that aside, there is a difference. He's not suggesting any supernatural powers... Just the the power of illusion.

These other folks are actually suggesting they can talk to dead people for example. or that a lump of rock a billion miles away, in front of some random stars a thousand light years away, some how affects your future? And for some reason, society accepts and tolerates this? It's astounding!

Not only do these people believe in magic, but they also can't seem to put a decent quality video on youtube either. There are 3 videos of it on youtube and this is the best quality.

I should have said add the people who believe in magic to the list. Derren and Dynamo are just entertaining people and not causing any harm unlike mediums etc. But it does amaze me that people believe the tricks are real. My Dad was like "now you tell me that isn't magic"

No idea who Dynamo is. Sounds like a wrestler... But when I went to see Derren Brown's show, he kept on stating over and over and over that he did NOT have psychic powers or anything, that is WAS just an illusion and mind trickery, cold reading, etc and that he was NOT magical in any way... that's what made it so much more impressive.

As you're all knowing, perhaps you should make it your personal quest to prove to everyone that such things are fake! ;)

You're shifting the burden of proof. It's not up to the OP to prove anything. He is not the one making the claim. The OP's position is the default position. That being, that no truth claim should be believed till it has met it's burden of proof. In other words, till sufficient evidence has been provided. The burden of proof is with the charlatans like Acorah who profit from their assertions and promulgate their un-unsubstantiated drivel as true.
