Motorola Moto G - new budget smartphone champion?

My HTC Sensation on contract runs out in Feb next year. I'm thinking of getting the G on a sim only contract (or PAYG).

Is this a significant step-up from a HTC Sensation?

I can confirm after owning a HTC Sensation for the last 27 months that the Moto G is significantly faster and smoother, in fact the camera is probably the only thing worse about it... and the Brucie bonus is the battery lasts twice as long!
:D

Looking forward to getting a G and costing me £10.50 a month instead of £35 for my current phone. Motorola may become a big force in the phone world in the next few years.

Got my Moto G today from Tesco, £35 after vouchers, not too bad for a back up. So far, it feels just as fast as my HTC one although i don't have much on it yet to be fair.
Anyway, whats everyone using for cases on these?

My dad wants a new cheap smartphone. There are some good deals on Galaxy S3's at the moment. Which would be better, this or an S3? I have been telling him the S3 is still technically the better phone despite being 2 years older.

S3 better but I doubt it runs as smoothly as the moto g nor will it get as many updates. The camera is far better than the moto g. It will also hold its resale value a lot more. Plus micro SD slot. Better hardware but not as optimised software.

Really want this phone but Tesco never seem to have any in stock, getting tired of waiting now, great phone but with a real lack of availability unless you want to pay extra, a shame.

Can't really go wrong with either.

I'd go for the S3 for the camera/vid cam, extra storage, extendable battery, AMOLED screen.

It's getting 4.4 KK too. Just don't ask when :D

Kinda what you expect when something is epically good value, though.

You just have to get lucky.

Bought one of these for the missus as a replacement for her ageing Samsung G2, She seems really pleased with it. Picked it up on Friday, 16GB for £129.

Ordered a replacement micro sim which arrived on Saturday. Ordered the unlock code from Ebay for a touch over £2, unlocked it and transferred the number from her old sim to the micro sim. Easy as pie.

Sorely tempted to get myself one of these, I've got an HTC One but feel like I'm missing out on a real bargain! Feels just like my old Galaxy Nexus in the hand but a bit nippier.

I've bought one of these as a gift as an Orange PAYG from Carphone Warehouse. It's not intended for an Orange sim though, and I was planing on unlocking.

Teree is no Orange brandin on the outside of the phone box though: is it possible it's unlocked? How can I tell without powering up the phone?

Cheers. Got him to order the S3 from the CPW flash sale (free phone and £11.99 a month with £35 TCB, bargain!)

Ordered one from Tesco last weekend, a heads up I set it so that it sent me an e-mail when it was back in stock and I instantly received an e-mail telling me it was in stock, ordered it and got it on Thursday.

XDA has been working away making excellent progress with whats available, bootloader unlock links, fixes for the bootloader unlocked message, root guides and experimental versions of CWM and TWRP. Can't wait for custom ROMs, even better battery life and performance me hopes :)

All stuff Moto G - http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/development

Disclaimer: Following most of the guides found in the link above will probably void your warranty and could potentially brick your phone making it nothing but a fancy paperweight.

Kona - completely OT here, but would you go nexus 5 or galaxy s4? ;)

I don't like the screen on the N5. Terrible off axis performance and muted colours. Then again I don't't like the overall design of the S4 either.

If I had to pick it would be the S4 for functionality, i,e, more storage and nicer screen, potential big battery.

What about the LG G2?
