Hi all

I'm looking for contents insurance that'll also cover accidental damage to a laptop and mobile phone both in the home and out and about. However, every policy I've looked at specifically excludes laptops and other portable devices from this level of cover. Does anyone know of a policy that'll include these as standard or would they both have to be added on as separate insured items?

Many thanks

You might find that your bank will provide mobile cover depending on which account you have with them.

I quick google seems to come up with some

http://www.swiftcover.com/homeinsurance/extras/

etc

Everyone gives it as an additional option. I think the OP wants it to be included as standard. I don't know what the point of wanting that is though. They'd just increase the price as people who don't need it will pick cheaper contents insurance which don't include it as standard.

AA Contents Insurance is pretty good I've found.

I just want the option! Even with accidental damage and personal possessions cover, the terms specifically state that accidental damage to laptops and hand-held devices is excluded (this was with Bradford & Bingley who came up cheapest in a price comparison).

Swiftcover above say they can't provide a quote.

If you read the link I'm pretty sure it said these 'extras' were included in the 'basic' cover.

I would be very surprised if any insurance company offered the policy the OP wants. To point out the obvious, carrying such items around massively increases the chances of theft or loss - why on earth would an insurer cover this for no added cost? That's why such cover is always an add-on.

Call your local insurance broker - this is a 2 minute job to custom build a policy and you get to speak to a human being.
