Go for GTX 780Ti's or not ?

Just do it mate, most of the folks who will tell you not to bother are just butt hurt that they cant afford them, forget small percentages and side grades, if you want a beast card get one.
Ive got the superclocked cards and i love them, personally if i was going to buy now i would wait for the next wave of Ti cards.
Just be prepared to spend all that money on cards that wont be on top for long :D

I'm highly considering it ! I am offered 2600DKK aka ~ £293 for my 2x Asus HD 7970 3GB cards. The Asus GTX 780Ti demo card is £529, so basically I'd hand out £236 for a GTX 780Ti over the 2x HD7970's ! ooooh the dilemma what to choose :p

Keep the 780's, overall performance difference is not worth it tbh. Also with a pinch of salt Maxwell is now rumored for March, how annoying would it be to plump for 3 x 780ti's lose value on your 780's and then Maxwell lands in a few months.. Wait for a real upgrade imho.

^^^
This 110%

#All: The GTX 780's are "safe" for now :) I will postpone that upgrade.

Right now my choice seems to be if I should sell the 2x HD7970's I have for the offered £293 and get a single GTX 780Ti demo model on discount at £529 and thereby hand out £236 myself..

Oh you have 7970's?

For some reason I was thinking you had 780's.

Ah I see you edited. I was confused there.

Hehe I understand it's confusing :) I have two systems !.
My own in the signature and then I have another which my fiancee uses and it has 2x HD7970's (Intel Core i7 3820, 16GB 1866Mhz ram, 120GB SSD+ 500GB HDD, MSI X79GD45 Plus, Antec H20 620)

The thought now was to sell the HD7970's and get a GTX 780Ti. My fiancee would use that 780Ti untill I sometime next year could get another GTX 780Ti. Then I'd take the new 780Ti and the 780Ti in her machine and put I my own system. Then she would get one of my 780's and I'd sell my remaining two 780's...and possibly get a third 780Ti.... that was the "idea" :)

Sold the HD7970's and will be getting a GTX 780Ti.... then I'll start saving up for a 2nd GTX 780Ti and when that's done I'll be selling my 2x ref 780's and the 780 Gaming OC will replace the 780Ti in the other machine !. And the money for the two sold 780's will be spent on a third 780Ti when they get cheaper ;)

Oooh... what an upgrade detour hehehe :D

Let us know when you sell your 780's. I need another:D

I wonder how much of that is actually needed.
I am going to buy a gpu soon, as I am in process of slowly building a gaming rig.
I read some reviews and you can even play BF4 at high settings and playable fps (50+) with 4gb gtx760/770. So is this just the 'upgrade bug'?
I got it for a while, ditched my 3570k for 4770k and then lost the interest when the whole amd price craziness started. You see my point?

Oh my I'm really confusing myself now ! I just realized for nearly the price of one GTX 780Ti I can get 2x Radeon R9 290 for CrossFire ! that would also be so awesome but it would also stop my plan of upgrading my 780's to 780Ti's.

Welcome to the brain storming world of pro's and con's of a GPU upgrade/new toyness. AMD always seem to find a way to offer ridiculous value for money vs NVIDIA so it makes for a spanner in the works if you were thinking of going for a couple of pricey NVIDIA flagships. The pro's and con's of the features that they bring to the table might have to decide it. Have you used crossfire before and had a good experience?

Yea I have used CrossFire before and haven't had issue. My brother still have my ooold rig of Phenom II X4 940 and HD5770 1GB CrossFire and the last time I had CrossFire was in 2010 with HD5970+HD5850 in TriFire and it worked flawlessly.

I must say that I'm beginning to think that the upgrade path from 3x 780 to 3x 780Ti's is just plain stupid, and it's only because I want to be able to compete in the top...
But 2x R9 290 will give helluva lot more value in the long run despite being af bit hot and noisy.

If you have time to wait there will be some cooler 290s for sale sometime between now and early January I believe.

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4884#ov

These coolers will blow the heat in the case though so you may need good case airflow for crossfire 290s. Only thing is I'm thinking 3X 780s to 2X 290 is a downgrade.

I won't be touching the 780's.

I sold the 2x HD7970 I had planned for my other build, so it's for that machinery I now need some GFX's.
I'm aware that 3rd party coolers for 290 will arrive in january... but the "problem" is that the new build has to be up running in the Xmas holidays and be ready to rumble !

Narrow things down now and found the cheapest cards available in Denmark for what I'm looking for.. either:

1) Two Sapphire Radeon R9 290 4GB for £303 each (total £606)

2) Single Palit GeForce GTX 780 SUPER JETSTREAM 980MHz core/6.2GHz mem. 3GB for £392

3) Single Palit GeForce GTX 780Ti (reference) 3GB for £539
