Intel is planning to launch their latest Haswell refresh processor lineup in Q2 2014 which bring nothing new to the architecture except basic clock speed improvements. VR-Zone has revealed the full lineup of Intel’s Core i7 based Haswell refresh processors which includes the Core i7-4790 leading the pack.

Yawn, I hope Haswell -E gets launched in 2014.. Otherwise very boring, nothing worth an upgrade to.. If only AMD had been ready with SR for desktop, could have reclaimed some ground..

Not that it makes it any less boring and pointless to me.

There's only one possible way they can make the refresh interesting, is if the IHS is soldered, they've shown they can do it with IVY-E.

cant see it bringing anything new,maybe improved igpu and better power consumption

skylake is where big improvements come,and I doubt they will ever use solder on mid range chips,cacky paste from now on

Hmmm im just about to order a 4770k, should i hold off for now and wait for the refresh? Just read they will fit a Z87 mobo, i guess its price dependant, how much they are going to try and charge for that extra 100mhz

No point in holding off, the Haswell 'K' refresh chips aren't due until Q3 2014, that would be a long time to wait.

The 4770K is best overall CPU Price VS Performance that you can get, you can always sell it later on, Intel chips hold their resale value very well.

Imho I would go for the 4770K now enjoy it, and then think about replacing it in 2015 with Skylake.

There is also a rumor going around that the K-series chips might not be suitable for the same socket and might support DDR4 as they are based on Haswell-E. Who knows.

4770K is still the shizzle. I'm on Sandy/Ivy now and can comfortably wait for Skylake.

DDR4 would be mainstream by then too.

No reason not to buy a 4770K if you can afford it (unless you have specific requirements which match IVY-E better) - barely even breaks a sweat for most uses.

Yes they did, although it didn't really help Ivy-E overclock well at all with decent thermals. In fact, the general impression was that it was far poorer than SB-E.

Such a tiny increase by 100mhz should have been Q1 if not Jan/Feb release date but Q3 means it could be out July-September towards end of 2014 lol

4770k is tops and will last for ages

Only thing holding me back is the gold rush of mining and AMDS Mantle which is hyped to make AMD CPUS and GPU go 10x faster

4820K is a great overclocker.

(I run mine at 5Ghz 24/7 without trouble).
Also 4820K has broken quite a few overclocking records.

4930K though, isn't, due to the fact that is 50% bigger, generating more heat and power. However most can get to 4600 without trouble.
And 4960X is just "eXotic".

4820K does trail the 4770K out the box a bit and eats into your OC gains catching it but I had mine booted into Windows ridiculously easy at 5GHz - but only to see what it was capable of as I running it on safer voltages for 24x7 use.

5ghz is pretty hard to achieve on a 4770k unless you go for something like the guaranteed oc extreme bundles. Helps that theese are delidded. Few users on here have it 5ghz on theese.

Im going for a 4770k then i guess, i was looking at the AMD chips and while they are really good bang for buck, theres not enough info yet on Mantle which by the way is more of a GPU thing than a CPU thing, yes it frees the CPU up to do other stuff but if the games not coded to make use of that spare horsepower than any CPU wont matter.

Also overall there isnt much in the way of games that really use all the cores that AMD 8320 etc have, and in the games that arent coded for the extra cores, the 4770 is miles ahead.

So TLDR, im going 4770k
