They're coming... Windforce 290X pictured

That's for a 290, right mate? Pretty damn good.

Yes, the 290X be around £499.

The custom cards are a good chunk more money.

290 is the sweet spot to be honest, I personally don't think the 290X is worth the extra as every 290 can be overclocked on the core to like 1050MHz-1100MHz which then gives you 290X performance.

Of course 290X can also overclock and keep its crown, but value for money wise the 290 is truly unbeatable by anything. :)

Yep, ordered 1000 of them as I reckon we will sell 500 in first week alone.

Back in early November I would've said demand would be almost unprecedented but it looks like a lot of people have caved already and gone reference. Still think they're going to be selling like scorching baked goods though! :D

The 290 is a real sweet card, for many reasons:-

1. It offers GTX 780 performance out the box, overclocked it can smash a Titan to pieces, even at 4k resolution.
2. Its incredible value for money.
3. MANTLE!
4. Litecoin on it and eventually it will pay for itself. ;)

On the product pages both the 290 and 290X have a 1040Mhz Core Clock, would be a bit silly if that's the case as it would compound the fact that the extra dough for the 290X is really only beneficial for benchers.

Or it's beneficial for those who want a top-notch GPU, that doesn't sound like a hoover when you crank up the settings. Nor will it get so hot that it throttles.

So we have a Windforce 3X 290 @ 1040 Mhz

and a Windforce 3X 290X @ 1040 Mhz.

What makes you think the 290 is going to sound like a hoover when you crank up the settings or get so hot that it will throttle? The cards are so close in gaming performance that you would do well to notice the difference. My only point is that if they really come with the same clock speed the 290X version is really only beneficial for benchers where every point counts.

I think it may be a typo by Gigabyte as it would not make much sense to pay up to an extra £100 possibly on the 290X version if you're just gaming as the difference will be negligible with the same clock speed.
