Jack Whitehall King of Comedy

also if hes that great name the shows or great performances hes done since the fast show ? hes a dinosaur, hes not fresh or funny.

Do you mean apart from all the stuff he did with Harry Enfield and Reeves and Mortimer?

This is going to be like asking what the Romans ever did for us.

Comedy, like film and music, has a top layer of filthy popcorn entertainment beneath which the real quality lies - less constrained by a box-office necessity for broad mainstream appeal.

I know someone how thinks Tim Vine is a genius :(

Tim vine IS a genius. You may not personally like punnery and one-liners, but you should recognise that he is a near-perfect exponent of the art.

Reece Shearsmith on presenting the best sitcom award:

"What you must remember is no one sets out to make a pile of ****..... Having *said* that...... here are the nominations"

early harry was okay recent stuff put the crackpipe down it was cringeworthy.

reeves and mortimer were funnier early on and that had nothing to do with him either. as said he hasnt done anything funny for over a decade !

its all about in those awards who can we use to promote or are safe run of the mill tv. there safe options. like the winner whos just been given a new tv show :p

as said name something monumental whitehouse has done other than the fast show?

then look at people like stephen fry , rowan aktinson, rik Mayall, hes a middle of the road comedy bloke safe for mainstream tv. hardly a comedy genius.

I can't stand Lee Mack, he is the worse 'comedian' I have ever seen, Jack Whitehall is rubbish too.

Kevin Bridges is pretty funny, probably close to the best Britain has to offer.

Jim Jeffries is by far one of the funniest around at the moment. Not british though.

Wish we had a pick of comedy like our parents/grandparents had back in the day. British comedy has gone so far downhill. Good news Monty Python are back together!

widely regarded :p hes that widely regarded hes doing insurance adverts for his main income thats how regarded he is ! :D

This appears to be the crux of your argument, given how you continue to repeat it. So one of the largest insurance companies in Britain has hired him to do adverts... Why would they hire some unfunny no-mark? What possible good would that do for their brand recognition?

I get that you obviously do not enjoy his humour, but your reasoning to justify your belief that he is a dinosaur or past it in some way is embarrassingly weak and nonsensically vociferous on that basis.

Big words in your face ...... Booyah!!

its cause hes well known and a character it doesnt mean hes the best comedian ever to live in britain :p

answer me this honestly is he as well known or as good comedy wise as Rowen Akinson ? Stephen Fry? Rik Mayall? = no.

so he isnt the " best " . he hasnt done anything relevant in 16 years thats considered top draw or original. if he was the best he would be doing films this that and have done films this and that and really good projects but instead he works with people like harry enfield the cutting edge of comedy :D

comedy gold i tell ye .

I didn't say he was. :/

It's completely subjective, I think he's far funnier than all that you have mentioned. Is he as well-known? Probably more so than Rik Mayall, but what does that prove other than he isn't all over the TV on a Saturday evening or on Dave? :/

You're arguing a point I haven't made and pulling strawman points out of your behind. I get that you have an opinion, but the fact that you parade it around as fact is just a bit sad really. You only make yourself look silly to anybody with the reasoning skills of a young adult. If you want to engage on some kind of higher level, I'd be more than glad to debate with you the evolution or stagnation of comedy, but you can't seem to stop yourself from lacing your responses with puerile goading.

If you think those are big words, I weep for you. ;)

Contextually darling..... Contextually

Milton Jones is awful, king of the sympathy laugh.

Not to mention he is a ****. Joe Wilkinson wasn't having the best of nights on Mock the Week and Milton dissed him for a cheap laugh. A**hole.

You seem to have not understood the joke.

Milton was taking the mick out of himself and not Joe. Milton appears weird, so calling someone else "a bit weird" was supposed to be ironic and not an actual insult against Wilkinson.

..and yes, I do feel like I've just dissected a frog.

We seem to have succeeded in producing an awful lot of people who are quite funny on a panel show, but very few good stand-up comedians. Ross Noble's stand-up is exceptional, but he's a pain on panel shows so is a bit of an anomaly.

But Jimmy Carr, Jack Whitehall, Milton Jones, Jon Richardson, Lee Mack, David Mitchell, Micky Flanagan are all good value on panel shows, but when they need to hold an audience for an hour they're atrocious.

The best stand up I've seen for a long, long time is Simon Amstell's Numb. He's nothing like he was on Buzzcocks, and it's stunningly good.

I was with you until you said Mickey Flanagan. His stand up is one of the best I've been to in years.

I just don't think speaking in a posh accent makes up for a complete lack of actual, like, you know, content...

This. A first it could be considered amusing. But it becomes very one dimensional and extremely shallow after a while.

I've grown to dislike the guy.

Ugh, it's painful! Haha :p

Hence why it is like people claiming X is rubbish at stand-up is no more worthy of merit than someone claiming that X type of music is crap. One of the beauties of life is subjectivity, we all have different things in life we like and hate.

Personally I can't stand Whitehall but I understand and respect that he has an audience, if he didn't he wouldn't have made it.
