Heatsink & Fan replacement

So the risk with a B grade WC unit is a lot higher that something will go wrong than if I just switch air coolers, B grade always makes nervous though I had a HDD that is still running today that was B grade.. I understand though .. I think I will stick to an air cooler with 1 or 2 powerful fans. I am not bothered by noise I use a head set and when not gaming I usually just run things quieter
'B' grade air coolers are a safe bet. Air coolers either work or don't and fans are rarely a problem.
This will sound very nooby to you 1337 tech guys but what exactly does the figure in watts mean? The above linked cooler says "300w Cooling Performance" What exactly does that mean to the lay man such as myself?
"300w Cooling Perfromance" is advertising saying it will cool 300 watt heat source heatsource. But it does not say what the temperature is or how many degrees it will lower it based on ambient temp.

Xigmatek Dark Knight SD-1283 Night Hawk Edition is a good cooler. Be careful of the finish as it can easily be scratched. Black felt tip will hide them.

I'm going to buy the Dark Knight cooler at £35 am I likely to get a significant temp drop from that cooler? with my house heating on I am idling in the high 50's - low 60's which seems pretty high .. do you think it will be possible to over clock with that cooler or should I just spend £100+ on a new WC unit?

Same as I said before. Idle temps are usually mid 20s to mid 30s.. so yes, you should see lower temps. But it also depends on how hot the air is inside case.
Have you tracked down the temp sensor and found out what the temps are inside the case?
Did you clean the filters on intakes?
Did you check to see how many dust-bunnies were in the cooler?

I cleaned the entire case out on Friday, I blew compressed air through the heatsink fins and made sure all the fans were clean and if I'm honest the inside of my pc looks brand new. I have had every visible wire out and cannot see any with the sensor on the end, there is a bunch that comes from the power button area at the front of the case but there is no wire with a sensor on it ... is it possible it is hidden or in a fixed position?

Temp sensor in in the oval in 1st image . . 2nd image is just the sensor

Ok I found it and placed it about an inch an a half away from the cpu fan temp is a steady 25 C .. the sensor works as it changes temps when handled but has not risen above 25 since being placed near the cpu.

Edit: My idle was 73C about 45 mins ago I reset my PC and it is now back in what I would call the safe zone of about 43C .. I am a little confused tbh Speedfan Core Temp all were saying 70+ now it is sub 45 and I have changed nothing .. I have even put the heating on and it's staying in the mid-low 40's case temp is apparently around 27 C .... Do you have any idea what is going on? Do you think I am getting a false reading? all the software agreed on the temps as they do now also so I am unsure why the sudden drop.

I still intend to upgrade the cooler probably the Dark Knight or the Raijinitek

I thank you for the help/advice and your patience :)

Now that the cores have stabilised all under 40 @ Idle but I have another question lol

Is it normal to have 1 core slightly higher than the other 3? it's only 4 or 5 degrees mind..

Ok then I won't fret about that but I have noticed yet another oddity ... though it's probably just more noobness lol

My CPU in core-temp is telling me it is running @3.7Ghz .. That is surely wrong or some kind of reading error? My CPU is a stock i5 2500 (Non K) @3.3Ghz OCCT also matches the figure of CoreTemp almost to the exact number (3592Mhz-3691Mhz)

Windows remains unchanged and displays 3.3Ghz in the control panel area.

Yet again I'm confused

Fact!
Computers have gremlins in them.. and they find nothing more amusing than to screw with our minds and confuse us as much as possible. :D

does the 2500 not turbo up to 3.7 on default settings? pretty sure my 2500k would do if not for the OC i've put on it.

You could be right, when I looked in the BIOS is says Turbo mode is on and it is at 3.7 in Core Temp/OCCT but once I load the CPU with say Prime95 it does drop back down between 3-3.3 Ghz.
